If you're a pauper running an old Defender, just use your eyes.

Even when mine is switched off at the button AND at the choice in the menus it seems to work in the background - to disable completely I think you would have to pull the fuse and then I suspect you would loose things like roadsign recognition and cams.with it off in the choices in the dash menus it still intervenes but a while less than when you leave that choice as On and just use the on / off on the steering wheel control. Yes I do too but often the eyes don’t see a speed limit sign and you (I’m an angel and have never had one in 45 years driving) get an unwanted speeding ticket...... ....I'm just being the usual padantic bum.
I found speed limit signs displayed in the BMW I had real handy, especially in Germany when the 'unrestricted' sign showed |

It will drive you to turn it off when you go to areas where the roads are narrow and the road peeps insist to putting a white line down the middle of the road.
I have to turn it off in Cornwall and Devon as the wife’s Velar takes up three quarters of the available tarmac... |

And that thought makes me wonder if the new Defender has included a shaver point for those busy London commuters who like to shave in the car. |
