Today I have mainly...
Been recommisioning a BBC Master 128k after having the PSU repaired.
Reset the EcoNet station ID
Tried to read the 5.25" floppy drives - limited success.

Ordered a module to go into the expansion port to give me some games to play Smile

Next might be the BBC Model B. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I have two regrets regarding old computers. I sold my old ZX Spectrum 48K and threw my BBC Model B out in the mid 90s.
Would love to have a play around with either now. Will have to make do with emulators, but not the same.

Think my old master is still in parents attic. What was its predessor? BBC B? had one of those as well.

I always yearned for an Archimedes when they came out... probably still only 1/10th the power of my phone though! Laughing

My first computer was a ZX81 with the 16K ram pack.... spent hours on this Thumbs Up

Then at School I used the BBC micro and 5 1/4 drives...

Then I went the Atari route, 800XL then 520STe before saving up for my fist proper PC a Pentium P60... still remember upgrading the CD rom from single to dual speed for £120 !!!!

Remember the huge computer shopper type magazines with free disks

More recently we found this in my wife's mums garage.... More amazingly it all works. !!!

Blimey, this is a trip down memory lane! I, too, cut my computer teeth on a 16k ZX81 (with a real keyboard) and a ZX Spectrum. The BBC Model B at school was next and I nearly bought one too, but as they were out of stock I instead bought an Amstrad 664 (with it's own disk drive) before moving on to PC's. Heady days, indeed. Darren

I remember the first Windows operating system introduced in 1985. I also remember the reaction of our company's IT guys who thought it was for wimps and would never take over from MS-DOS.

I'm sure I have some 5.25 floppies in a drawer somewhere. Defender 90XS SW

I started off with an Acorn Electron with a Plus1 module. BBC's at school and then when in college got given a BBC Master and then some how ended with a BBC B and some external 5.25" floppy drives.
Fast forward 20+ years and I have dug them out the loft. The BBC's didn't fair well. Both PSUs have let the smoke escape and smell of burning paper.

How ever I now have one fixed and the BBC Master back to life. Next will be the BBC B.
Then probably be selling them both (just a pity there are LA education markings on the side) 1999 Defender TD5 110

Got myself a ROM chip and module with an SD card that plugs in underneath the beeb
The ROM goes inside the beeb and the module plugs into the User-port.
After a few commands and a ctrl & break I can now access the SD card and load games off the card.
First game was Chuckie Egg, followed by Boulderdash! 1999 Defender TD5 110

We used the BBC systems at school, we only had a spit full of them at school, then we moved to windows 3.11 based machines. some one decided to turn the contrast right up so the screen was very dark, took them days to sus Laughing
What got started was my school ICT sorting my PC out, and them getting the chance to boot an RM nimbus server

A few years later i went to college for ICT A+ ( what a waste of time that was) I built a very large tower for a server.
and was given a RM desktop, got hold of a copy of NT4 server and workstation. With in 2 hrs i had a domain based network. Which opened the door for me to study windows XP and windows 2003. So i hold a major torch for windows NT 4 for that one. Windows XP i had right down to a T practically! Loved XP and windows 2003 . But could not get into the field at all. So i binned the lot, 2015 i decided to play again, and created my own dream lab, With a Dual Processor pentium 3 and two pentium 3 workstations. ( i really wish i kept my 1st lab) i will see if i can dig some photos out Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
