Refreshing to hear the views of a (self proclaimed) 'non-expert'.
Just demonstrates how the opinions of most car journos & car vloggers are just not representative of the car buying public. (Most of which are naturally car enthusiasts, into car tech, and often male). The majority of car buyers don't give a toss about: How fast or how well their car can go round a track; how sporty it feels; the 0-60 time; whether it will drive itself; bring itself to you in a car park; make fart noises; have dials that change colour; or have no dials at all just an iPad; etc., etc. They just want: Something with lots of space; get lots of stuff in; easy to drive; easy to see out of. This naturally leads to more SUV type shapes - no point journos being sniffy about it (and they are), if that's what people find easier to live with, that's what we end up with. |

To be fair, the first person he asked would probably prefer this over both of them:

I think I agree with Mrs EV. I also like Mr EV's description of the Tesla as "an iPad on wheels". However I think my next car purchase will be a PHEV - don't know whether I want to go full fat EV just yet. Defender 90XS SW

I’ve just had two years of PHEV ownership, I was able to drive in pure electric mode way more than I had I imagined because most of my trips are between 9 and 16 miles ( the Countryman had a claimed range of 28 miles, now it’s 31 miles, but REAL WORLD motoring that was 14 miles in the winter and 21 miles in the summer) with access to chargers at each end, but it was good knowing that I gad a 1.5ltr engine to fall back on for longer trips.
With hindsight I should have waited 12 months and gone straight to a pure EV as in that 12months so many new EVs came out at really low prices that had more than enough range that even the 20% of trips i needed the Petrol back up for could have been done in an EV with 180 miles range. There are now so many chargers available that if you have an EV with 150 miles or more range you certainly will forget all about range anxiety. Renault has just launchEd a longer range Zoe with a 50kW battery good for real world 250 miles for a lot of people that us a week of commuting. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

In all my years of car ownership I have never had a vehicle that wasn't manufactured in the UK, Germany or France. It looks like a manufacturer from Asia may well be our next family car. Defender 90XS SW
