Evey day a school day. But to be fair they haven't been used in our modern Army. It has a WD stamp for War Department. War Department became the War Office and then it was renamed Ministry of Defense in 1957. So wouldn't expect them to of been in service for more than 5-10 years after that. They then went on to using the Broad Arrow as a sign of UK ownership.
I know when I joined up in the 80's it was all plastic water cans and no metal versions anywhere. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

Begs the question what is the oldest bit of kit still in regular use in the Army?
I'm going to exclude the Navy/Air force, as I don't count Lancaster Bombers or wooden hulled ships as "in regular use". I'm going to hazard there's got to be a shovel or two that are over 50 years of age or more? |

As an Engineer we used wire cutters that were dated 50's if not earlier. But I would imagine there would be other bits of kit older than that.
Thinking about it, things like prismatic compass, sextant and bino's would still be in service and would be dated from way back when 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

You may not count it as being in regular use, but I believe the HMS Victory is still officially the Flagship of the home fleet. |

Loads of shovels/picks etc still in use, some issued tools pop up dated 60/70s.
Definitely loads of stuff in deep storage, unfortunately the lower ranks when told to sort out stores often have no idea what anything is so it often ends up being scrapped ![]() Oldest vehicle I know that’s still in use is a DUKW ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge I think it was the 60s plastic water cans came into service, they were originally green then transitioned to black. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

'Crispy Duck' was gifted to the RLC museum in Deepcut in 2015:
https://18coyrasc.btck.co.uk/OtherDUKWTales/CrispyDUKW Although that museum is now closed and is re-opening in Worthy Down near Winchester. Not sure whether the DUKW will still feature.
