shuttle valve switch failure

Thanks Dorset, good to know it can be rebuilt Just need to extract it from the car, which looks fun.
Is it likely the fault lies just with the shuttle valve actuator? These seem to be available quite cheaply for D2s and I wondered if it was the same part. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Sorry to bump my own thread, but looking for anybody with experience of this fault.
I have seen this repair kit which claims to offer more than just a replacement shuttle valve modulator, but there are no pics of the extra bits. Any thoughts? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Its generally the switch that needs replacing unless the innards of the modulator are really corroded.
The switch is fairly cheap to replace (around £30) it's on the bottom of the ABS pump. held in by three bolts. fairly easy to replace. the hard job is getting the pump out. to get the pump out, you'll need to drain (suck out the fluid from the mastercylinder res - use a big old syringe) slacken off the pedal box (6x 13mm bolts in the footwell) undo all the unions on the abs pump (4 on top and 2 at the back) tie them out of the way. I undid the clip on the top the pedal box as well as it gave the pipes a bit more moevement. undo the mounting bush from the bracket at the front of the ABS pump (10mm) . this allows you to lift the front end of the pump and pull it forward so that the rear mounting bushes come out of their cups. then it's free to wiggle around and out of the car. you'll have to push the pedal box over towards the engine so that the pump clears it. once out, turn the pump over and you'll see 3 little alen bolts holding a black plastic strip on. this is the shuttle valve switch. |

Thanks Neon. I read it may be easier to just take the wing off rather than wrestle with it.
Anyone know the correct part number for the shuttle valve switch for a 2.4tdci? The web is full of D2 related info, but not much Defender stuff. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

The wabco unit is the same for both disco II and defender. The shuttle switch is the same. Taking the wing off is a lot more involved. I looked and decided to go my route after looking at everything attached to the wing and inner wing etc

On earlier models - the Discovery II in particular - ABS faults would habitually light up ABS, TC and brake warning light, hence the three amigos. I guess the name has stuck despite the change in the way that faults now manifest. Darren

I’ve done this job today. Fairly easy one I took the wing off. Just a point about removing the pump. It is mounted on three rubber mounts. You only need to undo the front one. You can then lift the front of the pump and the it will pull out of the rear mounts. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I had this problem recently where the ABS and TC lights kept coming on intrmittently, don't have a fault code reader so looked for anything obvious, pushed in all relays under drivers seat and the problems has now gone away. It might be worth trying.
