I don't know how the purchase and servicing prices compared to the equivalent Navara on which it was based, but I can imagine there would be a chunky premium on both for the privilege of having a three pointed star on the grille.

It was a cynical badge engineering job that customers saw through from a mile away. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I did some more digging and discovered Merc made a few changes so it could cope with their largest engine. Disk brakes all round, changes to the suspension geometry/anti-roll bars and some extra chassis strengthening. But basically still a Nissan, albeit with a Merc dashboard and a few tweaks.

Do they still snap the chassis in half or was that the earlier version??

Thought it was the Nissans as it affected both the pick-ups and the Pathfinder SUV on the same chassis??

Just googled and looks like the slightly earlier version

It was the Navara D40 that used to break in half. The D22 before it was prone to catastrophic engine failures. I'm unaware of any similar bad habits with the Mitsubishi L200 trucks.

Interesting how the most backwards piece of farm engineering (defender) has had disks all round for years...

A friend (in his 70s) down in Pembrokeshire has one of these. It has spent a great deal of time at the dealership with electrical gremlins - most often a complete failure to open / start / come to life. I only mention his age because he also has an electronic garage door on a blipper, poor eyesight and a raging temper. He spent some long time swearing at the Merc for not opening, without realising he was trying to open it with the garage door blipper. Laughing
