New Defender, the wife...
Given all the discussion regarding the new Defender regarding how we view it, first impressions. first drives, build quality etc if you had applied these criteria to your Mrs how would she have fared.
I would hope that build quality has improved since I took the plunge with my model. After all these years I can still find faults.
Regarding reliability well she is still going.
I have seen different newer models out there with wonderful new chassis.
Old model though it is, I still don't understand it... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I’m going to keep the old girl too.
Many have turned my eye with the bling, but built for comfort and not speed is a good thing
I like things that wobble a bit.

I will keep the proper old one. I’ve never been a fan of plastic, and no character.

No missus in my household (I’m single) so no problem over which cars to buy ............. originally I wasn’t going with the new one I was going for a Kia e-Niro/soul, a Hyundai E-whatever or Tesla 3 (and for I paid for the Defender I could have had the Ludicrous Performance 4WD version) BUT whichever EV I went for I would still end up with 2 cars which was something I want to end eventually.
Am really disappointed there was no PHEV or Pure EV version of the new 110 or 90 and had there been some indication of when either will arrive I would have held back buying the D240. Cannot complain about its ability to sip fuel though, just achieved 43mpg combined A Roads and motorway and sticking to the speed limits (there’s an awful lot of loonies out today in Scotland who haven’t driven in nearly 4 months and seem to have forgotten how to drive in that time.......) Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Small is a bit like the Series One she owns. Reliable and still attractive , ploughs on through anything and comes out the other side with a grin. Not everyone's cup of tea but I would never change her. The new fangled models are built for speed and crash resilience and need changing every few years, are expensive to run and are always needing money spent on them. The older ones are built to stay with you, have depreciated to a point where it not longer matters and you could not imagine life without them. Mine is an old model N.I. exempt, built for comfort and reliable starts first time. Although I have had it for nearly half a century I still can't find how to that constant high pitched noise. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Definitely not the exhaust, that's a low rumble. It has been a bit quieter over the last few months with a muff across the front with elastic loops over the wing mirror brackets. Don't make old people mad.
