Security - is factory system adequate?
I've heard lots of stories about thefts of Defenders locally and am naturally a little concerned to make sure that my new one doesn't go walkies in the night.

It has the LR factory alarm/immobiliser system which is supposedly Thatcham rated so assume this is adequate to put off most casual scrotes? Thinking about a Tracker of some sort in case it got rolled away or towed etc but without giving the game away is the factory system something you can rely on to stop someone just trashing the locks and driving off in it? Andy

put a after market system in for some peace of mind.

not cheap but good ones never are !!

Derbywill,

There is potentially a group buy for what is an excellent product in the making....

I just hope we get a confirmed date for delivery before I lose the will to live or slip into the abyss!! Laughing

The only Factory fit Defender Alarm system which is Thatcham Accredited is the one fitted post April 2007.

The previous system which was fitted to Defenders was deleted from the Thatcham approved list.

My 05 XS SW has the same system fitted (as standard) as the 05 Range Rover.

I've got a meck_lock system fitted to mine. These are not cheap but are thatcham approved. No insurance discount though as it's just an 'immobiliser' Sad

Effectively disables the clutch preventing the car from being driven away. Very good.

just fitted a sky tag, a good price and they are strating to get insurance recognition

they cant get a thatcham rating because they are a user fitted item, however due to recent sucessful recoveries they are starting to get discounts on the major insurance companies.

they recovered a stolen landrover this year in 17 mins, and last year in 12!!, the unit is sinmple to fit, just requires a permanent live, hide it in your truck, and presto

the battery keeps itself topped up so if your battery is disconnected it still works for 3 days

there is also a live monitor subscription too so you can check up on the wife when she has your car! Whistle

ps i dont work for them, i just like the product

I fitted a Full metal jacket to the pedals...totally encases them. Wont stop it being towed but will make it difficult to hack through...
