The 1st set of wheels shown in that video (up to around 0m 53s) are LR optional 20” wheels at a mere £2900 Edit £3000 Big Cry ) for a set of 4 not 5........ and I’m not a fan of matte grey alloys even if I were prepared to buy them...

It did look OK in the video, so why does it look so bad in the new Defender?

Yes, but the abilities of the D4/RR/RRS are pretty much the same, if you set aside the wheelbase & ground clearance differences.

I can only assume that this one did not have the rear active diff and/or that the driver did not know how to extract the max from the vehicle.

I cannot stress this enough: driving a modern LR is *VERY* different from driving an old-school one. I own both, and I drive both off-road, and it STILL takes me a good 30 min or so to adjust my driving style everytime I switch vehicles. Rolling Eyes --

I too have owned both RRS/FFRR /Evoque alongside a 1996 Defender with no TC or ABS. In the modern systems a small amount of wheel spin is needed if you are using the electronic driving aids as the computers/ ECUs need to detect where the wheel/wheels with most grip are to allow the system to send the power to the right wheel/s and brake the others that are slipping.

In the days of Freelander 1 the system needed 5 full wheel rotations but now not even one full rotation is needed for the system to work. I’m sure it works better and quicker than my brain to detect which wheel is spinning. Also a locking rear diff in a modern LR product is rare except in RRS’s with the Dynamic badge where it is standard and on SVR. For me the most noticeable difference between having and not having the e-diff was that I never needed to swap my RRS’s 22” onroad biased wheels/ tyres for a foray onto the Scottish hills, it really was very effective. It would also engage onroad in standing water and in snow.

I think if you watch the Chinaman’s Cut and the later video in the trees with the Jeeps the new Defender’s wheels don’t even make ¾ of a rotation of spillage same as RRS would do. Why the Jeeps don’t do it I assume is because they don’t use anything like TR2 to move, whether the Defender would do the same if the driver didn’t use any of the special programs I don’t know - it would be interesting to see what would happen if the driver just selected low box and raised the suspension to offroad height. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Just been emailed by LRCS to please try downloading the V1 app and delete the V2 and to try logging in again.
Thumbs Up It works but I should be using V2 according to the iT team! Now I can do everything that the app I used in my 2015.5 RRS could plus I now have remote start and stop with “climatisation” of the cabin as well as all my journey records being visible on my phone without having to use my iPad/ laptop to see them.
The car is also booked in for the rear door window seal (oh sir we’ve had so many like that............ I suppose it’s a variation on “they’re all like that” ) but also noticed that none of the cars in the showroom or outside on display had a deformed window seal so I think LR has been quick to get dealers to check. One of the joys of being an early adopter I suppose. The roof rail tracks will be fixed but I also have asked the dealer to supply and fit a set of black rails and supply a set of crossbars as this morning I found that despite the huge size of the interior my paddle board in its waterproof bag is about 30mm too long to allow the tailgate to close...... will I be able to get away without also fitting the access ladder or can I continue to use my set of household aluminum 5 rung steps and chuck them in the boot like I used to do with the 90 - it was so much easier with the low rise Countryman Rolling with laughter Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

This isn't going to look good on the reliability index. LR currently 36th out of 40. Maserati and Bentley at 39/40 look untouchable, Aston Martin at 38 are going bust, but good chance LR will be challenging Porsche for 37.

Seems the more expensive the marque the more reliability suffers. Best get back to making basic straight forward utility vehicles.... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Or the people that buy expensive things are the people that are too important to read the manual.

A mate of mine that works in the service centre said that it is not unheard of for FFRR owners to moan that their car now 'wont go above 30 miles an hour'.

They had put it in low range and not realised or understood what they have done.

The other issue they see is 'the green car light is flashing on my dash', that's Hill Decent Sir'.....'what's that?
