No problem. The reason they need a tap is because they are moulded as one piece, with the pin attached by a weak link which needs to be snapped to push the pin in the first time. It is easy once you know how they work, but not so obvious if you don't.

You're happily sorted now, but just as a thought for others who might wander along. I did this recently and for these corners I used M5 stainless rivnuts, and black socket-head machine screws.

Of course you need a rivnut setter, but once you have one of those you'll find all sorts of uses for it. Donald

Good to know though, things don't always go to plan as I am fast finding out. Had to order a new escutcheon bezel for the window winder, I broke it trying to get the damn thing back on! They are fiddly Sad Other than that all seemd to go OK!

Had one a few years and use it for all sorts of things that normally would be a bodge.... @steve_overland on Insta.
