a relative of mine.....let me reword that. someone I know was foolish enough to drive at 127mph down the motorway videoing themselves, well the dashboard at least.
now bearing in mind they've hardly been driving a year and they've already had quite a smash! anyhow my mother apparently had a word with an ex-cop (might even be current) and he suggested they police wouldn't be interested and even if they followed it up he'd likely just get a fine. I thought over 100mph was an automatic ban (ignoring for a moment whether they would or wouldn't follow it up) - had he been caught in the act am I right to assume he'd face a ban. secondly I thought police we actively processing dashcam evidence etc? I know he's a buffoon but I'd me interested in your feedback |

I guess it depends if the video proves it was him driving?
A friend of mine was prosecuted (fined and points) based on go-pro footage taken by a pair of cyclists that he accidentally pulled out in front of. I'm not 100% sure on this but I don't think you can be automatically banned (by the police) - it has to be referred to the magistrate. However I suspect that if it's successfully convicted at over 100mph then a ban is a likely outcome. Ed 82 Hotspur Sandringham 6x6 95 Defender 110 300Tdi |

I believe a ban would be enacted by the DVLA if convicted if caught speeding over 100mph.
That would be after it had been proven by the Police and then handed to Court. How they go about proving their cases I don't know but they have their means. On the subject of speeding an interesting article regarding the Royals here: https://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2020-...-at-91mph/ In a Land Rover too funny enough! They were not sure if they still do now with the cut backs, I remember reading a number of stories about lads doing that sort of thing, Then been busted by the police afterwards. One video I remember watching, even though not the same thing but been cocky with the police. It was some local car meet, he was evading the police, by driving around in circles, turning into dangerous driving. The caught him in the end, He lost his licence, and the police filmed then posted the video of the his car been crushed. As a warning. exactly. what a muppet! thanks for the other replies. Although the video clearly shows what speed he was doing it could of course have been filmed by anyone driving his car. didn't think of that originally. |

I am not sure if this is still the case but it just o be if you exceeded the posted speed limit by 30mph then it was an automatic ban.
Many years ago ( 30 years +) my brother was banned for driving in excess of 126mph in his Ferrari 308. The police report couldn’t register the speed & it said the Ferrari pulled away from us at 126mph as though we were standing still. As you can imagine my parents were seriously impressed by this. Initially he was prosecuted for dangerous driving & told it was a custodial sentence ( no previous convictions) In the end he was banned for a year & a £1000 fine. May your life be like toilet paper ; long & useful. |

Have the police got the footage?
I guess as someone said.... it does not prove who was driving I guess, unless they can work it out from the roads and have cctv on them.. So if the police have the footage, seems your friend would be best bribing a 80 year old relative with a years supply of werthers originals and claim they need the loo..... |
