Fuel Filter Leak

Hi guys,

I’ve got a strange fuel leak from my defender. It’s 2.4 110 which seems to be leaking from the two pipes at the back of the fuel filter. I haven’t had a chance to investigate properly as of yet but does anyone know if these have o rings in and if so are these available to buy separately to the fuel lines?

sorry, don't know about the connections - but check the filter is tightened on propery and its not blowing back onto the pipes as you drive

Thanks Keith, I’ve ordered a new fuel filter so will swap that out and make sure it’s tight. It’s just two of the connections seemed to have a little sweat on them so assuming it’s one of those leaking.

It could be fuel blowing up onto them.

Could it, perhaps, be from the fuel tank breather hose? I'm presuming that you haven't relocated yours yet?

If it was the fuel filter, you would most likely have air introduced into the system. Are you experiencing engine quirks? The only fuel filter issue I've had so far was when a replacement fuel filter was supplied and I started having engine hiccups a month or two after. It was later found out that while this fuel filter was installed tight, you could wobble it from side to side!

A new fuel filter from a more reputable brand was bought and installed and if solved the issue from that particular area.

Those fuel line connections are usually pretty solid, sometimes they are even very difficult to pull off. Unless, of course, someone's been screwing with them.

I don’t think it’s the fuel breather as it’s seems extremely wet around the filter and housing.

I’ve only had this defender 3 weeks and seem to have had a lot of little issues that I didn’t expect, I’ll check the breather anyway but pretty certain it’s from filter area.

Got the leak sorted. It was the fuel filter itself that was leaking.

I wish it was factory fresh 😀

Glad its sorted, just for future reference the breathers were made from recycled blotting paper but IIRC exit the other side at the back of the rear 1/4 panel.

And so the spending begins.....!
