Yes they actually said this.....
"In a world where there are too many lookalikes, freedom and individuality matter more and more."
Those immortal words come from a 1997 Land Rover Freelander brochure. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

.........and this is what they said in the Defender Brochure in 2014:-

"Immensely strong. Defender's chassis is probably the most important component in the vehicle's design and contributes to its strength, versatility and durability. The box section, ladder frame design is stronger than an open channel design and more adaptable than a unibody design."

I'm sure Jim Ratcliffe would agree with that even if JLR have buried that statement in the mists of time. Whistle Defender 90XS SW

Presumably that was a Freelander 1 brochure?

Even more ironic if so since I believe the F1 was His Divine Holiness Gerry McG's first design for Landrover. Rolling with laughter

Back in the 60’s when looking to take on the Austin Gipsy for military contracts they produced drawings to show why beam axles were better that fully independent.

Good job they stuck to their guns there..... Rolling Eyes

Yes all the brochures for the 90/110/Defender/Discovery/Range Rover always expounded the benefits of having a separate chassis coupled with beam axles.
Regarding "should have gone with "one life - live it & fix it", maybe they believe in reincarnation which gives you more time to fix things. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

A woman reversed into my Puma 110 while I was parked ( lights on ). She said she did not see me, blue Defender with lights on. I changed the number plate, she changed the Fiesta. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Hi Peter,
Hope you're alright. That's an absolute bummer, getting the truck wrecked.
At least they didn't kill anyone. Good cctv evidence, hope it helps the case against them.
Keep smiling and don't let it get you down.
Jason

Hi Jason,

Thank you for those kind words. Fortunately I escaped totally unscathed. Not even the slightest twinge of whiplash. What rotten luck eh! Rolling with laughter

The collision occurred in April and the offending driver was sentenced earlier this week. He has full board and lodgings at one of HMP’s finest! And warned re likely deportation thereafter. I feel that “immensely strong chassis” LR boasted about saved my bacon. And “Peg” will rise from the ashes in due course sitting on a nice new galvanised example of (GKN) Marsland’s finest! Recompense for being defenderless for these past couple of months.

Peter I was unaware that that was a video of you and your Defender. I thought it was something pulled from YouTube. Glad the culprits were caught but I bet it was a trying experience waiting for justice to be done. You were honest and did not hammer the insurance for "whiplash" as others seem to do. You will be glad to get the Defender back. If the chassis had not deformed in some way there by absorbing some of the impact things may have been worse. The vehicle can be repaired because it is built as it is. The new Defender might not have been repaired as someone says the cost might have been deemed to great for the company. I am sure once "Peg" returns we will be treated to photos of the new lower regions. Yep I am drooling already. Thumbs Up 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Glad to hear it! Thumbs Up

"likely deportation" this annoys the hell out of me. Only likely. Should be certainly, for any serious offence.

I imagine that the moron driving the other car was uninsured?

Glad you were OK, that was a pretty massive impact. Shocked
