Female longhorn bee
One has just been spotted on the bank behind the house. Quite exciting if you’re a bee nerd. This is what they look like:



We had around 120 bee orchids last year but some fool with a new bank scythe cut the bank in May (it was dry m’lud). Delighted this bee has been spotted 😊

I'm surprised how many species of bee there are.

This summer I've realised just how many different bees we get in the garden (one positive to come from the lockdown I guess) that in years gone by I would have thought they were just wasps. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone
2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW

Yes it is astounding to spend a little time with someone who knows what they are talking about- we had a survey done last year and the bee man (there was a specialist for everything including dung beetles!) spotted 7 different bees in about 5 minutes. I’d not have given them a second glance 😬

I have a pyrocantha hedge out front and it's just finished flowering. At the peak of the flowers, if you stood next to it, the buzzing of the multitude of bees was alarmingly loud. Did make me wonder where they all lived?
