Ireland 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 CSW Stornoway Grey
Basil's here

Can't figure out how to do more than one pic at a time yet but everyone knows what a grey 110 looks like.

At long last !

Left at 5 am yesterday. 4 hr drive to Cork and 4hrs back in the new Defender so it got a good initial assessment. I fitted the side steps as soon as I got home - Paddocks ones - separate post.

The kids were going to call it Gary after Spongebob's pet snail but changed their minds so we called it Basil after the brilliant engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette (don't ask)

Just a few initial observations :

Its not as noisy as I thought it would be although the engine is fairly clattery under hard acceleration

The dealer brimmed the tank and 200 miles later I did the same and it worked out at 30mpg unbelievably good on a new engine

It doesn't like sidewinds or corners !

The radio is rubbish - the bass controls make no difference but with the fader on R2 it makes the best of things

The seating position is perfect (I'm 6ft)

The clutch is quite light

The rear seat box is slightly mis-alligned so you can see the road from one side ! Other than that it seems pretty well assembled panel gap wise. Its obviously someones job in Solihull to go round putting blobs of non setting black mastic everywhere.

The white writing on the BFGs looks slightly blingier than I imagined but they grip well in the wet

No clonks (yet)

First time we have ever had a new car that feels more like one of the family. Off to London in it in a weeks time and after that I'll start Zagging it !

Looks very smart Thumbs Up

There does seem to be a strangely high number of Defenders in various shades of grey around Confused Perhaps it's the new green... Darren
