Works the opposite way round gases from the engine come from the rocker cover and at a set vacuum pressure the dpv opens allowing the engine to breathe and those oily gases go into the intake and handily coat the inlet pipes inter cooler and egr and inlet manifold they do get oily there maybe a replacement is needed not difficult to do and fairly cheap hope that helps

Should gases from the turbo be allowed down the pipe into the rocker cover area? After ages spent trying to stop oil leaks from the rocker cover, I am just seeing if i have missed any other ideas. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

No it’s before the impeller on the turbo the gases from the rocker cover get sucked into the turbo imagine the turbo is a motor in a hoover and the gases coming from the rocker cover are sucked in. The depression valve opens at a set vacuum pressure as it has a diaphragm inside as said part is easy to replace as diaphragm can fail you can try cleaning the area up to check if the oil accumulates again hope that helps you out. Where is the oil leaking from out of interest

Ah right you need to check that the area is clean chance are the seal is not seating right tighten the rocker cover bolts in a pattern as if you were doing a cylinder head up ie opposite to opposites starting from the centre bolts they do not need to be really tight where the half moon is try some grease to hold it in place and try to seat into the radius they can be a

Yup, cleaned, bolts tightend in the correct sequence, to correct torque.
Added sealant to both sides of the gasket and left to go off for a couple of days and still leaks. Which is why I was looking at the breather hose thinking could this be blocked/restricted causing a build up of pressure ? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Could well be the depression valve is blocked or not working correctly I would replace it and try that as it won’t be allowing the gases in the engine to escape they are not expensive to replace and I believe many view them as a service item only a two minute job to do

Yeah as said if it’s not working could be pressurising the engine causing the leak at the half moon seal and build up of oil at thr valve
