With all that bright sunshine, photo voltaic, you would think, would be easyish to achieve for charging vehicles on rally raids - especially if the batteries were interchangeable. Not sure if the Middle East is ready to embrace as they still are major oil producers.

Not sure now, but a few years back I worked with an electrician who had worked in Saudi (getting old, memory is getting bad!) or a country around that area where they were powering large engines for power generation on heavy oil as they had loads of it, and it was cheap. This was well before Greta, or Extinction Rebellion, but even he commented on how environmentally unfriendly it was!

I take my hat off to Formula E for trying, but even with their battery vehicles, the whole circus that is dragged round to support these events is in no way carbon neutral or environmentally friendly, and in the near future, it is difficult to see how it ever will be, no matter how much spin they put on it.

Wasn’t the Mini Clubman based on the BMW X3 Reilly Raid chassis which in turn was the original X5 RR chassis, ie it was big to start with .....

Still lots of fond memories of my mates 1275 GT Thumbs Up
