I have had similar symptoms twice... Both simple cheap fixes so relatively painless places to start (aside from skinned knuckles).
First was boost leak - simple fix, find leaking component and replace/repair. For me it was a split boost pipe... Hope it isn't a split intercooler since you've already uprated it! Second time sticky turbo actuator - see video below. Clean and lubricate actuator arm and pivot points. Update - intermittent loss of power/boost issue still unresolved- going to check the entire loom from turbo actuator across the engine head- so many others have pointed to this and I’ve ruled out a lot of other things. Intermittent power loss seems to be the most common fault in these 2.4 pumas. Hopefully il get to the bottom of it. Need to fit an ultraguage or something similar so I can monitor boost and hopefully EGTs. Im also looking for a 102mm diameter stiff walled/silicon hose to further improve the air intake performance- anyone got any pointers where to buy the right thing for good price?. Think need to get all hoses changed out for silicon to rule out them being deformed flat by boost or summat. Any suggestions not already tried welcome!

VCV has been recently replaced or I would agree. It’s very intermittent issue - need ultraguage or similar to confirm but pretty sure it’s losing boost - my current hunch is it’s the wiring loom that runs across the head - and comes to turbo actuator - mine is an air con version - supposedly worse for putting strain on this loom at the actuator end - however reading reports on here that even non air con ones have suffered major changing issues on this loom.. will investigate over coming days

I too am having a similar problem.
2007 Puma 90. Standard apart from air filter and centre pipe exhaust removed. I loose turbo power after about 10 to 15 mins of driving. Only sometimes does it through a P0299 boost error, but mainly no MILs show. If I wait for 10 mins or so, back to normal, until another 10 mins or so. The only thing I’ve done so far is remove and clean out the EGR (wasn’t too bad at all). After that, it run run for a little longer, but now back to the 10 mins or so... Watching this thread with interest. |

My problem turned out to be sticky vains on the turbo. Reconditioned turbo fixed the problem!

VCV would be my bet. Had to replace mine the other day with similar symptoms. Easy to do if you have a couple of 3/8 socket sets. Need to extensions and ujs. Hold my beer and watch this!
