Steering Box
I’m embarking upon the rebuild of my 90 at the end of July and I’m slowly stockpiling parts. Now, one thing I’m not sure about is whether it’s worth replacing the steering box or not whilst doing the chassis change. I know that Adwest boxes are the only ones worth having. Is it worth trying to just put new seals into the current steering box I have or should I just replace it? To be clear, there’s currently absolutely nothing wrong with the current box other than it’s perhaps 16 years old. It’s really just a case of is it a worthwhile thing to replace whilst doing a rebuild? So I’d appreciate some advice from those that've done rebuilds and those that know a thing or two about steering boxes. Thumbs Up
Cheers! Charlie

Check the seals over while it's out but if there's no reason to change it why bother? Give it a clean up and overhaul seals if necessary but I wouldn't bother replacing since replacements seem to be hit or miss these days. Ed

That’s one of my concerns. I’ve heard the reconditioned ones aren’t worth the effort but the Adwest ones are trustworthy. Charlie

I'd put it back on but keep an eye out for a second cheap one to recon as a backup. Ed

Likewise I’d heard they’d stopped but it seems places still stock Adwest steering boxes Neutral Charlie

Britpart distribute Adwest steering boxes now, you can no longer buy directly from Adwest.

I would say that that gives you the answer! Leave it alone.

Thet's the most depressing thing I have heard for a quite a while.

I think that’s the answer then. Check it over and leave well enough alone. Thumbs Up Charlie

I am in a similar position. I was planning to get mine sent away to be rebuilt rather than replace it though, I didn't even know you could just buy them off the shelf still.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to get one rebuilt? 2005 Td5 90 XS

If its working, no excessive play and no leaks, why do anything? Cheers
