Brake master cylinder 90 pre vs after 91
Hi,
My master cylinder on my '92 90 is leaking.
It looks like it has the pre90 cast master cylinder fitted not the later one as it should be (non abs).
Is the later master cylinder better? Will it fit my servo? Is it worth changing into what should be fitted?
Thanks all,

if the mounting holes are in the same orientation then yes it will physically fit the servo.

also need to check the output from MC - is it 4 or 3 and the orientation of the pipes as they leave the MC, plus depends if you have steel or flexible brake pipes to make them match if they are of different orientation.

not sure if there is any advantage of the newer one., assuming ports are the same. Cheers

The two different master cylinders are not interchangeable as the stud positions on the servo are at a different angle.

They are slightly different piston bores (23.8mm vs 25.4mm) but the larger one was fitted from 91 (i.e. before rear discs were standard) so doesn't really matter which. I think the later ones are all three port and the earlier ones 2port so changing would need a servo and piping change. I would just use the same as the type you already have, just buy a good branded one! Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

Ok, that makes sense, a bigger bore would mean less pedal travel, but maybe a pressing harder.

That said, it does look like a faff!

I have a Delphi one priced up and on my basket, it seam the good old days of changing seals have gone!

The trouble is that usually when they start leaking there will be corrosion and pitting within the cylinder bore so new seals won't last long at all.
