Steve
We use viewranger for the OS maps but the completion for great mapping has really opened up now Maps.me, mappy.cz guru maps are excellent alternatives in fact mappy.cz shows all the footpaths trails etc ... for free and offline .. just my thoughts Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Mappy.cz has a tracking setting but Ive not used it as yet.
OSmAnd Maps and Guru maps also have tracking, Viewranger has a great tracking facility which we use with 4x4 response. hope that helps Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

I started paying about a year ago, has been useful to find local trails to ride on MTB.
However sounds like i shouldn't have been!! Thanks for the recommendations will check them out. Trailwise 2 is a great tool for laning, and finding lanes and their statuses, but not in my opinion a great tool for general mapping, as there is no live tracking feature that I've found. |

Thank you both. Useful info. 👍🏻
OS annoyed me because I was somewhere the other day I could have used it, I found that I couldn’t log in. Went to reset the password they didn’t send it until hours later. When I did finally log in hours later it then come up with the subscription thing. I’ll try the options suggested sometime and they may well be better and more reliable. What's up with good old paper maps? No extra charges, they always work and they're such an enjoyable thing to look at.
And you can 'mark them up' if you're into green laning too. |

Have just been looking at viewranger. It's half the price for a yearly subscription in comparison to the OS mapping app so i'll probably switch to that. Much better in appearance and usage too.
All i would say is that i think i'm still going to end up keeping the trailwise/glass subscription, a) because i think their cause is worthwhile, and b) because the trailwise2 tool as a resource when laning is too valueable and easy to use not to have it for laning research and checking what is legal and what isn't. The frustrationis then the lack of positioning in trailwise so you have to keep moving the map manually from memory. |

I don't think it's changed. There's always been the subscription (mine's £20 per year), but if you don't pay, you can add your own maps using the scratch off panel on the inside of each OS paper map. They're then available offline.
For £20 a year, it's a bargain - entire UK at 1:25k with offline maps, available through browser and phone. Can't see what there is to complain about. |

The £20\year you're referencing is that for viewranger or os official?

OS Official https://ordnancesurvey.co.uk/shop/os-maps-online.html
It's actually £24 now, I get a small discount as an existing subscriber. If you buy it through Apple or Google store, it costs extra. There's a 14 day trial too - good for a holiday. |
