I've just come across this mudstuff double din fascia panel, has anybody fitted it?
https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/mud-td5-double-din-console.html I know they recommend their JVC unit, but just wondered if anybody fitted something else with good features on it (i.e. phone prep / camera etc)? Would be interested how people got on with microphone quality and general connectivity and also if you used a basic cigarette lighter and whether that fit ok (instead of the USB option)? Thanks, |

Not yet, but I'm planning to get one myself
Should just crack on and order it really, while I'm still working from home, hmm thanks for the reminder. I am not planning on using their suggested JVC unit - but rather another mechless double DIN unit which is not too deep, possibly something like: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units...usb-system I'd like Android Auto, the ability to engage a reverse camera, and something which fits in the MUD panel. I've got on well with Pioneer units in the past, they seem to be well made with good radio reception. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

Hi
I have just had the Sony AX3005 Double Din unit fitted. From forum research the space behind the consol is tight, the advantage with the Sony unit is that although it is a double din unit screen wise, 6.95 inch screen, the electronics behind have a single Din form factor at the rear. This makes it so much easier to squeeze into the space behind the consul. https://www.halfords.com/technology/car-au...23605.html Very reasonably priced in my opinion, with some good sales prices at the moment. Applecar play works effortlessly as does the DAB etc. About a week of use and I am very pleased with the result. |

I was looking at this and while it looks like it has a single din aperture it comes with a double din cage?
Can you advise if this will fit in a single din cage or does it need a double din cage? Thanks |

Hi Apologies, I can't remember, as I did n't do the install personally. However the Halfords link does show the footprint of the unit hidden in the console. The Engineer was very pleased to fit this unit as space required was significantly less than for other full double din units.

Thanks for the alternative, I was hoping to get one with a good handsfree phone system attached. Unsure if there's a specific rear view cam or a universal you plug in.
Funnily enough saw mudstuff also have one that goes into the number plate light. |

I’ve fitted this, along with the JVC unit. I’m pretty pleased with it. CarPlay works very well. I also fitted the optimill rear camera. This takes some getting used to and I still rely more on my mirrors for reversing than the camera 2002 110 td5

The Mudstuff panel is easy to fit.
I bought the JVC unit, but not from Mudstuff because it was much cheaper from the Car Audio Centre. The unit is still available but branded Kenwood. The double DIN aperture did need a fair bit of filing to get the head unit to fit (despite what Mud say!) The reversing camera is good for checking for kids and animals, but I reverse using the mirrors. The Bluetooth handsfree works as well as it can in a Defender! You can just about have a conversation around town, but at motorway speeds it's best to bellow "I'll call you back later"!! |

Fitted the Mudstuff double din panel along with a Sony AX3005DB to mine about two weeks ago. The panel is
very well made, and considerably more robust than the original that is removed when installing. It's expensive for 'a bit of plastic', but I'm more than impressed with the quality and would buy again, in my opinion it's the most 'factory' installation option. The Sony unit is fantastic, it's reasonably tight behind the dash but there was more room than i expected there to be. CarPlay works great, I wired in a reverse feed for auto switching to rear view camera, and bought a long iPhone lead that I routed on under the carpet on top of the transmission tunnel and up into the cubby box, no wires on show. Very pleased with it all and possibly one of the best upgrades I've made and one that's used every day when driving. Only have one average photo to hand, was during installation and hadn't yet refitted the top dash rail, if you'd like more photos just ask and I can take some! Cheers, Joe. Click image to enlarge |

Bought the console from mud, found the head unit for £300 elsewhere.
20 mins to trim the console apeture to fit the stereo - it's a little too small to fit the JVC unit. 40 mins to fit console. Stereo took about 30 mins. All simple to fit. very happy with the result - but just use if for the radio and playing tunes from my phone. I think the mud console is overpriced, but it is a very good fit and blends in well. |

How time flies and my 90 has sat very idle in that time. Great to see that fitted / hear the comments.
Anyhow I've got back onto this and priced everything up with Optimill reversing camera (seems tidiest solution here) and Focal speakers/sub. Unsure if Mudstuff do any promos before I order?? (or recommendations of other audio specialists?) |

Just thinking about doing this, did anybody find a unit which didn't require trimming the aperture?
Seems from reading this the recommended mud stuff JVC unit is not as flush as they stated on their website. Also looking for one which does apple car play via bluetooth and not having to connect a USB cable.... I assume that's possible? |

The JVC unit required minor adjustment to the aperture; just a bit of draw filing with some needle files, it is flush with the panel.
The unit connects to phones with Bluetooth and my little one blasts me with Ariana Grande at every opportunity! |
