1964........ IIRC we didn’t have a 70 mph speed limit (came in Dec 1965 IIRC introduced by Barbara Castle) or many motorways then ......... we moved house from Swansea to north of Glasgow the winter of 63/64 and I think it took 3 or 4 days in Dad’s MG 1300........ it was also a really bad winter that winter. Showing my age now! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

They go well over the speed limit on M40 all the time. Pretty poor show by JLR to allow obvious test vehicles to be driven like that on a public road. Speed limits don't seem to apply on Warwickshire back roads either. Evil or Very Mad

That's just a nod to the engineering heritage when they used to get up to all sorts of speeds on the local roads...I'm reading the "record" was 185mph in 1964 - although not by a Land Rover!

Different times. I'm told the Land Rovers fitted with V8s in the 60s could top 100mph...
I was going to put something about typical bad driving from buyers of modern JLR products but thought better of it. The new Defender I've only seen the other way, but been passed by various others near Gaydon at very high speeds, including those in the camo wrap. Poor show really, JLR should be promoting road safety, not paying folks salaries we can only dream of to drive like hooligans. 2011 110 USW

Especially when they have a private high speed circuit just over the back of the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon that once upon a time was an RAF runway. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

To be fair, you should see them texting Astons. Seen loads of them in laybys sat revving up and down, maybe a bit silly but not dangerous. They don't hang about on the road though. 2011 110 USW

Think I might have to go for an essential shopping drive to see if Pentland has any on their forecourt while they waiting for Dictator Sturgeon to ease her lock down rules. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I’ve thought about it, but I know Cupar won’t have one as they are no longer recognised as a new car franchise, so I’d have to go to Dundee.

/\ are them two special?

having seen some publicity shots I have to say I thought they look pretty good.
Those two however make me think something very different.

At the rear in this photo they look very much like an early Toyota Rav 4. I’m really trying hard to love them as otherwise I have no clue what will be my daily drive in 3 years time. An Evoque? Velar? They would be the only other options for me really.

That seems to sum it up. I get the impression many people will buy it despite the looks rather than because of the looks.

I’ll be trading my Velar in for the new Defender. Great car but not my first choice, I only ended up with it as my D5 was a dog, so got a good deal on a D240 R-Dynamic SE. It’s a good all rounder.

It’s only the front, my eyes, that lets the new Defender down.

@j77 The only thing that could be an issue as per your quote (your D5 was a dog).... THE DEFENDER IS A D5.... Just with some cheap to manufacture plastics chucked at it... It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...
