Northern Spain
Hello,

I have 2 weeks off from 13th August with nowhere to go! Just reading through Junes LRO and an article called unseen Spain has me thinking of heading to Aragon. It looks great with nice weather.

Does anyone have any experience/ideas for this area, maybe someone knows of an interesting route through the Pryenees. Maybe camping in the Pyrenees?

Starting to wish I started planning earlier Very Happy

Thanks,

Steve

Hi, i hoped to go as well this year but did'nt get the time. Noworries4x4 advised:

Right then maps at the ready.
Pau
Oleron-Sainte-Marie
Tardets-Sarhouls D918
Larrau D26
Forret dr Irraty
Spanish Boarder
NA 2011
NA 140
N-135
N-138
N-135
Pamplona

Allow a whole day for that but the wiggly bits in the middle are worth it. Take a picnic for the forest there are some rest areas there:

also see this post for more info: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic4905.html?highlight=pyrenees

good luck and please post details of your trip and plenty of pics BM52

If you want to see some photos of Northern Spain, have a look HERE

Be on look out for temporary and seasonal closures in case of say high fire risk/busy tourist seasons so only local traffic (running as taxis Razz )

Enjoy your trip

Most dirt tracks in Spain (well, certainly in the south, around Andalucia) are closed except for access only (access to houses/land), not for recriational off roading/camping/lighting fires.

expect a 3000 euro fine if caught!

I'm in the gibraltar4x4 club, and they were planning a trip next week, but had to cancel it once they remembered the law.

IMO Best advice is local advice. The Spanish Land Rover has forum HERE

Only problem is that all their forums are in Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish talk nicely to Barbara and she might be willing to act as a translator for you.

A few years ago various rumours were flying around that all green lanes in the Pyrenees/N Spain were closed. (Rumours were coming from certain tour companies Whistle ) Barbara asked on the Spanish forum and they denied it. However situations can change just as in the UK with TROs etc

Getting local contacts is a good plan as not only can they advise you, might even do a pub meet, guide you around some lanes etc. If doing local contacts it is a good idea o see if they want any gear taking out. I have taken wheel rims to Sweden, Mudstuff to Australia etc.

HTH

Thank you for your replies, very much appreciated.

The campsite I had in mind got back to me and do not accept pre-booking Sad ....... and then Wyvern goes and posts a similar question on Sweden Smile

Wild camping... wilderness road... my ears pricked up Surprised

I am pretty sure we will go north now to Sweden, I have a friend from Sweden who is over in the UK next week and I shall try to get some info. Shall post any interesting stuff too.

Again thanks for the replies, especially LEEDS who is always HTH Thumbs Up
