All, Pulled up the plate to my battery box just to work on some of the electronics to find some strange foam or something in by box, Also found out that it wasn't secured down so what do we think?

Yes that is leakage from Battery be careful cleaning it up.
You may have problem of overcharging. Check output from alternator. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

Yes it is acidic. Don’t breathe dust but clean it up while keeping it dry. Don’t get on wet hands.
When you have removed as much as possible use that copious water to dilute and clean away any remainder to reduce risk you get corrosion in the battery box. 1995 Defender 110 CSW 1971 SIIA Lightweight |

Easiest way to get rid of the mess is to pour boiling water over it, this will wash it away through holes in base of battery box.Take care not to do it on your best bit of drive it stains! Remove the battery and use more boiling water, flush with hose.Don't get any on your clothes you will end up with a hole as it is acid ! Clean and treat.

Baking soda and hot water or cola are are both very effective at cleaning the acid, i know
obviously remove the battery first and don't breath the fumes as mentioned 2023 Defender L663 V8 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8 (gone) 2010 110 XS Utility 2.4TDCI 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 (gone) 2007 Discovery HSE TDV6 (gone) 1993 110 csw 200 tdi (gone) 1994 90 HT 300 tdi (gone) 1994 discovery 300tdi (gone) 90 hybrid 3.5 v8 (gone) Range rover bobtail 3.5 v8 (gone) |

As a chemist this is aluminium sulfate/aluminium hydroxide - the product of the aluminium in the seat box and the high concentration sulfuric acid solution. Any iron/steel will form iron sulfate/iron hydroxide (rust)
The best is to wear a pair of Marigolds / thick rubber or Nitrile gloves, a pair of Goggles, some old cloths that you don't mind getting damaged and if you have one a proper canister respirator, if you get any of the ali sulf/hyrox on your skin wash off immediately it's still acidic when damp - carefully remove the battery, watching out for leakage, then with warm water properly wash the seat box out, then make a solution of bicarbonate of soda (1 tablespoon to 500ml warm water) and brush this around the box, allow it to neutralise any remaining acid residue, (5 mins) them rinse again with water, a quick final rinse with deionised will make sure everything is good. Dry the area then coat with choice of coatings (etch prime, paint, or other) Zaid-M www.DefencePhotos.com 2014 Defender 110 Utility, 2.2 Puma, Indus Silver Not just transport more like a religion |
