TMD Billet Light Fitting
Hi Folks.....please excuse the basic question, but vehicle electrics are not my thing! The TMD billet aluminium number plate light (LED unit) has a brown wire and white wire (see picture). The existing stock light in the Defender (bulb unit) has a black wire and a red wire. Does the new unit Brown wire connect with the (old unit) red wire and the white to the black

Brown to Red?
White to Black?

Thanks

Tim

Try it one way, see if works. IF nothing try the other way. Light Emitting DIODE, current only passes in one direction. 2011 130 Utility Body

Yes, I agree, was a bit surprised. No doubt someone in here has fitted one though

Pretty sure brown will be live and white Ground. Best to check it though, Normally such colours will have a little tag on the live to denote polarity, sometimes they come off or of course may never have been any..

If you have a 9V battery around, you can probably try that to find out its polarity as most 12v marketed items are usable between 9V & 16v. Being LED it should light up no problem.
Might save you having to take the seat base and panel out or having to make any temp wiring just to find its polarity on the LR battery. Wink $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

They're not the only ones, unfortunately. I've fitted quite a lot of reasonably expensive stuff that hasn't come with any instructions - most recently, Nakatanenga and Safari Equip spring to mind. I suspect that a lot of these what are really cottage industry type companies, start off as engineers and think that all of their customers are the same. Darren

These companies obviously assume that if you can afford their products, you employ a man who looks after the cars in your garage and knows how to fit them. Whistle

Yes, didn’t even come with correct connectors fitted for “plug and play” which wouldn’t have been hard to do given the price. Just two bare metal wires. Hmmmm
