Just to confirm. If you have a late Defender it will have a relay in the rear door and you just need to swap that with a 99 relay for intermittent wipe.
Is that correct?

Thanks
Andy.

Having compared the diagrams side to side, I don't see how it could work as a direct plug in.

Fitting an intermittent timer in place of the rear door relay would connect it up so that the rear wiper button would ground the timer, but the washer input would be ignition powered.

The intermittent pin isn't connected.

So in theory, the timer should operate as if you've got the washer button held down permanently on the front, so it would just wipe continuously. It might not even give the run-on wipes after the button is released, as it ground to the timer would be instantly cut which might just stop everything in its tracks.

That said, I've not tried it!  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Ohhh. My head hurts.
On mine the wash button doesn’t have any effect on the wipe function.

Just for clarity my Td5 is an 06 model.

On the back they don't - the wash and wipe (as standard) are separate and simply on or off.

I was referring to how the front works, looking at the wiring if you plugged a timer into the rear door it would work in the same way as the front washers work as standard.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

You can always pinch the front timer and stick it in the back.

The VW99 relay is just a programmable/variable version of the one LR used in the front wiper system.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Yes. Think I’ve got a spare off an old defender in the garage.

Plug and play. Just swap out the relay for the VW relay in the rear door.

Turns the wiper in to an intermittent wiper. Completely separate to the washer.

Once installed, switch on rear wiper on dash and the rear wiper is now intermittent. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

Just to clarify - Mine is a MY 07 TD5 so presuming Landy Andy's 06 is the same. Your probably right Martin pre 02 models / older doors have a different set up.

Without taking the door card to check my instal - one of the terminals may have had to have had the wire swapped over - however it was an easy job as per the instructions posted before. 2007 TD5 90 Hard Top

I’ve developed a rear wiper wizard Laughing which varies the number of wipes on the back and wipes when washing etc.

It’s not plug and play at the current time but it’s all wired at the rear wash/wipe switches and front wiper timer.

Martin, can you give us some more info about what this thing looks like and how it's installed? Your shop page is a bit light on detail! It could be just the thing I need to support another little project. Darren

It would have been great if the mic I was using wasn't all muffled. I've had to re-record the audio, trying to sync it up Banging Head  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
