Hi all,
I'm trying to arrange transport for up to 9 riders complete with Mountain Bikes. I'm trying to get them from the Wyre Forest near Kidderminster back to Cannock Chase on Saturday 27th August at around 7pm. Really struggling with this. For our Chase to Coast Holiday, we use a company in Aberystwyth that has a 24 seater with some of the seats removed so that the bikes can be shoe horned in the back. Something like this would be great, either a Mini Bus to hire, or even a Mini Bus with driver. Cheers! Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

I run a minibus firm, but am too far away.
If you are stuck, you could try an operator search here: https://www.tan.gov.uk/tanen/vosa_anonymousoperatorsearch_new.asp Selecting PSV and entering a town it'll give you a list of all the people who have a license to run minibuses and coaches in a certain area. Then you can google the business name and get the contact details. Hope this helps. I could send a wheelchair bus with seats in the front half and the rear area open for the bikes, but believe me this would be cost prohibitive. You need a local company. |

Cheers for all the help guys.
We are looking to just going out and buy a 17 seater which we can simply remove seats if we need the space. I'm a bit bamboozled on the whole D1/PCV thing though. We will want to use the Minibus to transport customers to/from rides and charge them for the rides. I'm gathering that strictly speaking even though I won't charge directly for the transport, this will still be classed as "Hire or Reward" which means I need to get a PCV.......? Seems a bit strange that I need it just for this? It's not like I'm a Taxi service!? Both people that would drive it would have D1 on their license as we are old farts. Anybody got any advice for all this.? Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

A local publican got into trouble with the council here as he was giving customers a lift in his car to the train station. They made him register as a taxi!
JK No the other left . . . |

You'll be running a service for which there is a charge, wether direct or assumed in the other cost. So not only will you need a full D1 license (not a 101 restricted pre-1997 one) which means a test and passing a D1 minibus test, you'll also need an operators disc to run the vehicle, correct Hire and Reward insurance and the vehicle will have to run on a tacho to be sure of no problems. I doubt what you are doing is a regular scheduled service in the eyes of VOSA so the tacho will cover your rear end. Looking on the bright side, you'll not need to get an Operators CPC as you only want one (or two) vehicle. So you can get a restricted license to only have 1 or 2 license discs. Realistically you will be looking at: £500 to £800 for driver training each, test and hire of vehicle to learn/pass. (and medical) £1200+ for a years H&R insurance. Then a few hundred £££ for license disc etc... Plus the cost of the vehicle of course... Bare in mind a PSV also has to have regular (8 week typically) safety inspections by a suitable person, a PSV test each year and the Tacho checked every so often. This is the reason some of us do this for a living. Doing what you want to do may be cost prohibitive unless you are going to start using the vehicle for airport runs and other private hire jobs too. If you need any further help, just ask. |
