PENMAN HITCH MODIFICATION
I have 12 Penman Trailers that I'm converting for Expeditions. Alucab canopies, RTT and drawer system will be among the modifications.

A catch is the 70cm towing height and I'm thinking of lopping off the lunettes and welding on a two inch receiver. This will make it compatible wth the Maxx coupler or Lock n Roll hitches. Both companies provide off the shelf height adjustable solutions compatible with 2-inch receivers vehicle/trailer side.

I like the NATO pintle hitches but will be using a variety of towing vehicles and need a more versatile solution that will be height adjustable with a plug/play approach. The advantage of this is also that the tongue could be extended depending on the vehicle/load for more stability.

Has anyone has done this or have any thoughts?

I am not aware one anyone doing this before, but it strikes me as an extremely good idea. I'm not sure if it would cause type approval problems if done here in the UK though (actually I don't suppose the couplings you mention are UK type approved anyway).

If you go ahead, it would be really interesting to see and hear more about this, please keep the forum posted.

Thanks will provide some updates on my progress. If the receiver is used to attach a Type approved hitch I guess that shouldn’t be a problem if the trailers ever make a return to the UK. Doubtful though that will be needed. Will keep the forum updated. Cheers
