I completely agree. I was absolutely gobsmacked when they launched the new Defender without even a proper Hybrid version right from the start, and in my opinion they should definitely have also included a full electric version. They can't say they hadn't developed the technology yet when the already have the well received Jaguar I Pace! That to me was a terrible mistake. I for one would not pay in excess of £50K for a diesel or petrol vehicle without it being a full Hybrid. As come selling it time in another 3 or 5 years no one will go near it. |

It goes to show how out of touch either the designer and / or the management are.

Out of the entire Land Rover (not Range Rover ) lineup I think the defender has the biggest chance of making decent sales. The d5 is a total let down from a design and packaging perspective and I think the 90 has a cool factor over the DS, the defender will attract a lot of D4 owners currently living on extended warranties when they would have normally swapped by now. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Problem for LR is they don't actually make the I-Pace... its a bought in product... So they have no IP... Hence no BEV or PHEV... It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

I know they farmed out manufacturer was it designed externally? i thought JLR designed the powertrain including the motor and used their formula e divisions IP for some of it? Damn shame if they don't own the IP over the design. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Not sure that's correct. It is assembled overseas, but as far as IP and such matters is concerned:
* It was designed in house * The chassis is a variant of the JLR D7 * Electric motors were developed in house * Battery management system is a JLR product I'm not certain but thought the batteries were actually assembled in the UK also ~ the battery cells come from LG Chem but the 90 kWh battery itself was developed at JLR. |
