Transfer box drain plug thread size.
Puma transfer box. What size thread is the drain plug hole? I assume it is BSP? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I bought some magnetic ones for the diffs and transfer box...not got round to fitting them yet Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Thanks Martin, the reason I ask is that I have bought the Ashcroft high capacity cover plate for TDCi and I want to drill and tap a drain plug into it. It has a blank boss cast into it already. I wanted to copy the main drain plug so they would be interchangeable. If it is M12, I won't be able to do that as I assume it seals on a shoulder inside the drain hole rather than being a tapered. I can still go with M12, but will need to use a different type of plug with a head and sealing washer. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

LT230 drain and filler plugs are 3/4" BSPT full form, 14 tpi, (and of course seal on the thread being BSPT and full form). The only difference between the filler and drain plugs is that the drain plug has a magnet bonded to it.

I'm not sure if there are variations on this and if all LT230s are like this, but the Puma transfer box currently sitting in my kitchen and the Disco 2 box currently in my shed both are!

None of my LT230s have filler or drain plugs this small, although a quick search online certainly mentions them, maybe early LT230s did (there is an ebay listing for an M12 plug for a Disco1). On my LT230s an M12 bolt will pass easily through both filler and drain holes, head and all.

Maybe I should have been less lazy and measured the magnetic ones I have yet to fit Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

I don’t have tap, plus the boss in the cover plate isn’t really big enough for a 3/4 BSP hole I don’t think, so I’m going go with an M14 one as I have a spare magnetic engine drain plug in that size. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
