Most definitely will have a severe effect on ICE powered vehicles - everyone is commenting on how much cleaner everything is with such a huge reduction in vechle numbers on the roads. Even where I live out in the sticks but 25m from a very busy main road that now has very little traffic on it people are once again hanging washing outside, not needing to clean windows as much, the air is also much more pleasant to breathe and the noise level is way way down. Only problem we have in these times is that the speed limit seems to have been abandoned and people are reading 30 as 60-90.......... 3 serious accidents to pedestrians by speeding cars in 3 weeks means more people in hospital due to careless drivers than there have been outbreaks of C-19 infections......... Not sure about prices etc but agree with the speed element. Where my cottage is, I can hear the bikes racing between roundabouts, we sit roughly between the 2 roundabouts in question. You can hear them come off either roundabout and then just fly up through the gears, hammering their bikes for the 1 mile between the 2.

Same here. We live at the side of an A road on the edge of a small village with a 30mph limit in the village and 50 on the approaches. Boy racers in Corsa's and Golf's and dozens of motorbikes continually speeding through the village making it extremely dangerous for pedestrians. Plenty of people on bikes who clearly aren't used to being on them or haven't been on them for years. A couple of our local farmers have put notices on FB telling cyclists to be aware of tractors, who are currently working overtime following the wet winter. Defender 90XS SW

We had a couple of supermarket delivery vans in the village yesterday. Sainsbury's and Tesco's to be precise.
Both drivers were driving 'with purpose' 
I'm not knocking them as I expect they are under a shed load of pressure to perform at the moment and in all fairness they were only exercising the gearboxes of their vans, rather than driving stupidly like the idiot who got pulled doing 132mph on the A47 near me the other day. Not sure there are any Supermarket delivery vans that could reach 132mph? Prices for vehicles must be difficult to gauge as apart from private sales, most dealers and garage sales are closed during the lockdown? |

Way off topic, but part of my self isolation has been spent watching dash cam videos (mainly Russian) on YouTube. They're strangely satisfying for some reason, particularly listening to the absolutely awful cack the drivers are playing on their radios at the time, and how it usually carries on once they've rolled several times.
I think I've now learned the Russian for 'I say my good man, I vigorously disagree with the manner in which you have just driven your horseless carriage', or words to that effect.... As to vehicle prices, I suspect there will be less money available to buy them, so the prices will have to fall. |

 on bikes or in cars riding/driving with a death wish will soon get what they want.... same as the tits that won't isolate, hopefully they'll catch it and get their comeuppance.
As for the clean air/tree huggers keeping it that way.... for a while I think it will linger, but sooner or later life will return to the rut that it's comfortable in.... yes the "nice relaxed" life is nice, but soon enough people will want to make more money/travel etc so things will return to the way they were; IMO. |

Vehicle prices will probably slide further, but I can't see many new vehicles being sold once this is over, so there might be a bit more pressure on the used market, who knows? I've been looking at a few late L322s with the 4.4tdv8, and they are coming down quite healthily if you are a buyer.
It did occur to me that the anti diesel / ICE lobby will have a hitherto unimaginable bank of data with which to bash govt. It will be hard to argue with the data around the increase in air quality and reduction in noise pollution during the lockdown, and the impact of that on people's health. I don't live near an airport or flight lines, but it must be absolute bliss at the moment. I think we will see some cities put in place much larger pedestrian / cycle areas pretty quickly. The solutions found to enable people to work from home effectively won't go away post lockdown, and hands up who wants to return to a 1-2 hour commute when all this is over? I also suspect that the travel budgets of large corps won't go back to where they were. Of course things will return to relative normality, but it might be 80% of pre CV. |

This whole commute business we seem to have been locked into is farcical  We commute considerable distance using up precious time (and resources) to sit in an office to do a job which, with technology, can some of the time be done just as easily sitting in your spare room or in my case, my Man Cave
I think the world will go back to normal after this is all over, but what normal will be is up for discussion. I think this will be the death of the Newspaper as we know it. People who usually pick up a paper on the way into work will live without whilst they are in lock down. I think many many pubs and restaurants will not reopen, and those that do may fail as there will be less disposable income around. I think we will see the end of the £29 flight. I don't think that air travel is doomed, but there will be a rationilisation of the fleets and possibly the closure of smaller less profitable airports. I agree that the drop in air pollution is difficult to argue with. I am still not convinced that electric vehicles are the way forward or that they are specifically better for the environment other than the lack of air pollution from an ICE, but at present, they do seem the only 'viable' alternative to the petrol / diesel engine. If JLR are offloading D5s with 20-30% discount, it makes you wonder if there is any room for any further discounts after? |

Car prices are definitely dropping I spoke to a an elderly gentleman on Saturday who the previous day had done a deal over the phone on a Volvo at a local dealership that was priced to sell at £17,500 he had bid them £14,500 2 weeks ago over the phone and they rang Friday to accept his offer,

Nah, you've got that wrong - the evidence will say that the air was much cleaner etc but just look at the mortality rate for the same period! - surely there will be a rise in ICE popularity?!  |

i work for factory that makes car parts for nissan, Just before xmas i was moved to the new juke line. The thing is as soon as the new year came into play the build for the parts dropped, and its been very hit and miss for everything, right up to when nissan shut production. That goes for all the car companies we make parts for too, BMW, renault etc, its the uncertainty of new cars that's caused a problem. Some of these new cars that have come out, have not got enough range of engines. The new juke is a good one, Only one engine available, which is a 1.0 turbo i think. that's not going to appeal to many people. Electric cars, there just isnt the range or the power points really, The new leaf hasnt really picked up since that came out either. We make bits for that too, and that's worse than the old one for build fingers. With the lockdown kicking off, has made things worse, so once this is lifted, nothing much will be moving sadly. A lot of jobs are at risk as of now so i cannot see anyone making a gamble on buying a new car. If this happened last year, when i was looking for the replacement, i would have mothballed the idea. Next month will be into the unknown for me budget wise, will i get the 80% or will work want me back on a two day shift, which will put me down 16 hour week and on the same money as i was on 5 years ago at asda, Which isnt much at all, it would take me months to build up budget! I may even have to mothball/ car share Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
