What brakes?
Brakes!

Well where do i go from here? theres so much choice, good and bad! But what's what?

I have an overland build on the go and now i am looking into the brakes Shocked i have a defective clapper on the front which pulls left when braking, unfortunately they are not the genuine callipers so i want to change them for ease instead of messing with rebuilding them, i also want to change the disks at the same time.

So what is best and recommended for overland, with a fully laden 110 that will be quite happy on the road and off?

Vented front, solid rear.
Ap lockhead/genuine are the same item.
Basically keep it standard so you can get spares easily, its not a racing car.
Island 4x4 normally fair pricewise

And if its a keeper, replace the pistons in the new callipers with stainless ones (Zeus)

Agree with htb2 - keep it standard. I upgraded to EBC grooved and dimpled discs with EBC pads - one of the worst things I've done to mine! They were terrible from beginning to end. Had them fitted for about 18 months before they corroded so badly they had to be replaced. Replaced for a set of standard vented front / solid rear discs from Bearmach, which have been spot on so far (but only been on 6 months or so).

All running standard AP Lockhead calipers. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

LOF do a new range of brakes
Their callipers (APs) are upgrades with stainless
I purchased a complete set of callipers, vented fronts and 110 solid backs for my 90
Still in their boxes as local garage is closed due to virus - so can’t report on their quality but I have heard very good reports

I have the performance spec discs and pads from Luke at LOF and had them on for a few months and they are superb to the point my not tester said he hadn’t ever seen brakes as good on a defender

Standard calipers with full rebuild with stainless pistons and new seals

Have a chat with Luke I’m sure he will sort you a deal if you mention me👍

i too am building an overlander type vehicle.

i have gone for standard vented front (AP rebuild with zeus pistons) std delphi pads. solid rear, again rebuilt with Zeus and AP pistons.

adjust the throw on the servo so you dont get any slack

upgrade flexis to braided so there is less expansion under pressure.

i run this setup on my 90 and 110 they bothl lock all 4 wheels.

what more do you need from a braking system. you dont need to spend more unless you want to look at heat dissipation against time for some performance driving or mile and miles of mountain range descents. Cheers

Lots of food for thought, thank you everyone Very Happy

In my mind EBC and the such like were going to be great but I’ve heard lots of poor stories about them.

LOF in fairness have had great reports so far and I’m very tempted to do the basic kit, the extreme kit is a bit too pricey for me with the millions of other priority bits, but they look so good! Very Happy

Genuine route does sound a bit more favourable being an overland build and in a way easier to fix when it goes wrong million’s of miles from home, so LOF will do AP Lockheed callipers with stainless pistons etc? I can’t see them on their site,
The power spec kits look pretty good and reasonable 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8
