That will be an exhaust gas temperature probe. I used to have one on mine. It will be connected to a guage on the dash giving temperature read out. Essential if you have tweaked the pump to within an inch of its' life and want to make sure you aren't destroying your engine when pulling hard up hills.

This is a retro fit 300 tdi set up in a early 110. You can see that I have put the reservoir in the usual place but it is mounted by a short bracket to one of the triangular wing/slam panel bracket lower fixing bolts.

Thanks guys. The trouble I had, is that I replaced the wing and it didn’t have holes in to make it obvious. A moment of inspiration this morning made me look at the other wing and I found the holes mentioned, so just had to get the drill out. Thank you all for your help Defender 90 softop (in bits)
