Some interesting features on these, including a different approach to front recovery from JATE rings:

The vehicles are armored by MDT Armor Corp. The David, one of the vehicles used by the Israeli military, has become the standard patrol and reconnaissance vehicle, with hundreds deployed in Gaza and the West Bank, and along Israel’s border with Lebanon. The model in use by the Israeli army is built on top of a Land Rover Defender chassis, and a 122 bhp, 2.5L turbocharged diesel engine." https://www.whoprofits.org/company/land-rover/ And a interesting piece on some of the variants they have in Israel: http://www.warwheels.net/images/LandRoverD...022012.pdf |

"According to a contract published by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) on July 8, 2021, MDT Armor Corp.,* Auburn, Alabama, was awarded a $9,982,848 firm-fixed-price contract for procurement of the David Urban Light Armored Combat Vehicles.
Click image to enlarge The David Urban Light Armored Combat Vehicle is based on a LandRover Defender 4x4 wheeled chassis and is built in MDT Armor’s Alabama facility. The vehicle is designed to offer armor protection against the firing of small arms and IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) explosions. The vehicle is in service with the Israeli armed forces (IDF). Although, the article does go on to state that "The David armored vehicle is based on an armored capsule that can be mounted on a civilian chassis of a Toyota land Cruiser, Hilux, or Land Rover pickup truck." https://www.armyrecognition.com/defense_ne...hicle.html |

Think of the vibrations which it must experience too, I doubt that it is very useful at all!

I don't know how many you get for your $10 million, but where are the base vehicles coming from?

I was told they needed a narrow one for the streets there, Hummvees are too wide. Don't know if that is true but it seems likely. Peter

Defenders are still built in various local guises in different parts of the world. Iran for example, although I'm not suggesting that these come from there, but Turkey is a more likely possible source. All plausible sources.
Read another source ( https://www.israeldefense.co.il/en/node/50835 ) that suggests this order is for 70 vehicles - so a nominal value each of $142.6k. Edit: Well I emailed the company in America and asked the question if it was based on the chassis Defender and if so, where were they getting them from? I just got this reply: "You are right – the Defender is long gone… All Davids are Toyota based now…" So mystery solved and to get reply from the company. |
