Reason I ask is mosjority if upgraded units have the option to power the antenna which won’t work with the naka anyway

But for am/fm I found out the long way that yes the am/fm does work with out power but dab does not if powered through headunit

Why dont you want to power it?

Hope this helps 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)

I’ve tested mine and it seems good, but still not in full use yet until I’ve done my install.

Don’t forget also if you have a HU that can power a DAB aerial to have that setting turned OFF with the Aerial externally wired in otherwise it won’t work.
On mine this come up on the opening screen after power has been disconnected.

From when I tried the aerial it picked up a good amount of DAB channels and that was parked in a relatively confined area amongst buildings too so I’d say that’s pretty good. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I can't answer the original question (about FM/AM reception without power) although I would expect the aerial to work in this scenario, but I can say that I have been massively impressed with the performance of mine.

When I first fitted a DAB receiver I had a DAB aerial mag-mounted to a steel plate on the roof-rack (the steel plate providing a ground plane) and the reception was utterly useless. It would work fine very locally, but was completely inadequate for regualr use.

The Nak aerial provides stunning reception even in areas where I wouldn't expect any reception. It made a nice change to be more impressed than I expected to be rather than less impressed.

I am using the Naka aerial for AM/FM only, without power (in hilly Cumbria). It's noticeably better than the factory aerial was. On the school run, my wife's Disco loses signal at several points, but in the Landy the Naka aerial gives me uninterrupted reception.

Proof that the Landy is better than a modern vehicle and more reliable. Wink

Factory aerial was terrible I found, barely find an FM station or two and would lose signal. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
