Subtle removable headunit in a Puma

I thought I'd share my little project for mounting the headunit in my Puma.
I wanted a HU with bluetooth, CarPlay, reverse camera etc. but crucially I don't like the idea of drilling holes and permanent mods on my 110, so that ruled out the double-din facia (never mind the price!) and I'm not fond of the pop out screens. Although having the monitor pop out of the middle of the dash where the clock is, is quite appealing. I know a one or two people have done it on here. Big mod and you loose windscreen space though.
I found the Pioneer SPH-62DAB which is like a remote screen HU (just a screen with separate box). This also allows me to unplug the screen and hide it.

I made a bracket that requires no extra holes, uses two existing screws that keep some dash trim on. And a corresponding bracket for the monitor so you can just slot it in and out.

Used a bit of sheet aluminium for the bracket, made a cardboard mockup, template and cut out the real thing.

Top mount hole is the screw that holds the cover for the instruments panel. (Bottom one is the screw that holds the trim directly under the instruments panel)

And without the headunit, notice the cable retracts and hides neatly in an unused button hole.

I'm pretty pleased with it, looks neat, a bit of added security, plus you can used the touch screen without taking your hands off the wheel. There's a bit of bounce/vibration in it when going over bumps but not too much. I added foam tape to the back to minimise noises and rubbing. Had to bend the indicator stalk slightly forward to stop it fowling when indicating right with the headlights on.
Just need to tidy up the monitor's bracket a little and it's there really. May look at extending the umbilical cord for the monitor too but I need to find a 36(!) pin connector first.

Great idea, very neat and completely reversible. I hate drilling holes in panels and trim.

Yeah that's a really nice job that. Like you saidI like the way that it's angled towards. I've got a in. double DIN unit and but so you got to turn your head look down and try and fluff around trying to change the station could be a bit hard.

Good idea and the place I wanted to put my rear camera screen. That was until I realised my left hand and fingers would always catch on it while using indicator stalk.

Although outa the way I’m not sure if this top windscreen corner is its final home yet either.
