2.4 tdci new injector seals not sealing
Hi any body had trouble with new injector seals not sealing ? Had a good puff of smoke first start up of the day so checked me glow plug fuse and that had corroded one of the pins off changed that to find non of the glow plug where working so changed them plus cleaned the inlet manifold out as I was there as there was a fair amount of crud in there popped back together and next morning the puff of smoke had reduced but still present (oh balls) had a bit of a search on hear and Google and seen that the copper injector seals could be to blame plus there was oil wetness around the rubber seals around the top of the injectors so I ordered a set off the bay so I taken my time striped out the injectors out cleaned the recesses out and re cut the seats made sure everything was spotless and put it all back together the next morning first start up smoking gone or at least what I would expect any way give her a run to work and back popped the bonnet up to see they where damp again with oil? Checked the new bolts weren't loose and they weren't so just wondering if any one has come across this or

So I had this. Swapped injectors and seals and glowplugs cleaned inlet manifold out at the same time. Mine smoked still for for a good few starts after like at least 30. It wasn't till I tool it for a good run it cleared. So in the end I put it down to me soaking inlet manifold in diesel and softening the curd. It tool ages to burn off. It's been good as gold ever since. Good luck

Dont you have to reconfigure the injectior timings. I’m pretty sure they did that with mine

Might be worth going genuine. I had to replace non genuine injector seals on my Td5 because they leaked - replaced them and has been perfect since Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks fellas it sounds horrible but I guess I'm not alone on this one lol see what you mean tomotomo I've only had chance to travel a few miles to work and back and haven't had chance to stretch her legs yet shes not to bad just annoying that's all and hope it's nothing else that's pushing the crank pressure up as the pcv valve if clear mick I'm not entirely sure just thought as every thing went back in the same order it was ok I'll have to have a look about on that and see thanks hank good job we have a soft spot for them lol grafty99 I'm on with ordering more seals and hope I have the same joy tried getting me injectors checked but no one will touch denso injectors round this way

Moz,

Did the seals and washers myself a few times, but they kept going after a month or so.

Took it to an injector specialist who took off the rocker cover and showed me the crud etc. you just can't clean off without it's removal.

We also found that my washers were fine, it was the seat on the injector that had become damaged and was not sealing. Ended up needing 4 x new injectors, seals, oil change, crud cleaned off, new rocker seals, etc. and all put back together.

One year on and I've not lost a drop of oil and the engine runs a lot smoother than before!

Not sure where you are located but if near South Wales I can recommend BCL Swansea. Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon

Hi ozzie, alass I'm up in Cumbria but thanks for the recommendation I bought the rocker cover seal but after taking the injectors and seals out and having a look about with a touch it didn't look too bad in their no black blobs of death any way unlike the intake manifold lol but this time when me new bolts and seals arrive might whip it off and have a look inside how bad where your injector seats? I'd of thought after a whip round with the remaining tool it wouldn't of been that bad ? I've ordered a leak off tester and going to give them a check I noticed more leaks coming form the seals that the injector bolts go through than the seals themselves but cant seem to see any for sale on line

When you say the seats were gone, which bit exactly was damaged?
At the bottom just up from the tip where the copper washer seats? Or where the o-ring seats?

I found you had to remove the rocker to have any chance of cleaning the seats properly enough to achieve a good seal....
I doubt there's anything between the genuine and non genuine copper washers.

Well been trying to keep myself busy refreshing the back sill up while I wait for me seals and bolts to arrive finally found the seals that the injector bolts go through so ordered 2 of them might as well stick them in while I'm at it later on yesterday my cheep leak off kit arrived and had to mix and match some of the o rings about to get it to work and give her a test after 5 minutes on tick over these are the results and judging on that number 1 injector is not looking to well Sad

Just thinking about replacing that injector that's leaking back more than the rest and putting the injector code back in for it would I still need to do the pilot learn and vcv program? As just a bit concerned as I'm supposed to have a td5inside remap and ain't you supposed to set back to stand reprogram then put the remap back on ? Won't I loose the map?
