For those who might be interested in having the ability at times to sleep in a 110 Defender, e.g., at shows, green lane-ing, adventure travel and holidays etc. you might be interested in my new set-up and ideas.
I wanted to retain the same equipment storage capacity as before. Minimal time and effort to set up when needed quickly, e.g., vacating roof or ground tent, or top pop up when needed (for example, in adverse weather, security needs in remote or risqué areas, or one-night camping). Unlike a roof tent or pop-top, have a reasonably easily-accessible toilet arrangement, as opposed to having to vacate to the outside or 'make do'. Still have the ability to use the rear of the vehicle and door to cook on/from when needed under simple rear and side awnings. Easy access to the driver and passenger seats to drive off quickly if needed in a security or emergency situation. Low down and low extra weight distribution. For normal and longer stay camping using my RV4 ground tent with side panels, with connection, via the tent awning, Click image to enlarge to the rear of the 110. Drive-off capability for sight-seeing with minimal prior preparation, Easy connections for site 240v a/c power to enable heating, cooking and lighting if required or needs be. No noticeable effect on the off/on-road capabilities of the 110. Low financial outlay. Well, this is my approach, I appreciate it might not suit everyone. Hi kmac,
When needed the bed assemblies are lowered from the vehicle sides onto the dummy baulk heads. The feet part of the bed is then hinged forward and adjustable straps are hung around the front seats. A self inflating mattress is then positioned on top. It takes approx. 25 sec. per side to deploy. The material used for the bed bases and dummy baulk heads is very light weight furniture board, titanium coloured, with plastic covered hard faces (light weight plywood). You can still use the two 2nd row seats when the beds are not being used. |

there is another way to have 2 beds ands keep the seats with the use of Dormobile seating ..
We had that set up on our previous 110 and it worked very well as a hybrid 4 seat/2 bed vehicle. good work on your conversion Trooper - its great and hope you get a lot of use out of it, you may find the thickness better with a Kip Mat which are very comfortable.. we have upgraded to a double mat now and it works really well for us. Hi,
Sorry english is not my favorite language Before I buy a Defender in 2012 I contact Dormobile. I did not remember who I get of contact but i have try to buy some seats ... After many email to choise the color ... etc nothing ..... So there where never Dormobile seats in my Range Rover. But I always think that what I have see about Dormobile was wonderfull. And if you are lucky to have parts from them , keep it Philippe current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today. Hi Wyvern,
I must admit, your previous set-up was most appealing in many ways when I first saw it, with the rear easy erect tent/awning and internal living arrangement, I even contacted you on your choice of tent. However, I did not want to clutter the valuable inside storage space with fixed storage cabinets, cooking and eating facilities. Rather, I wanted my cooking and eating arrangements to be outside from the back, under an awning say, attached to a tent, or free standing. The bed mats I have used are 10mm self inflating, very similar to the ones you recommend. |

thats fab Trooper!
There is no right way to do this as we all have different requirements, and there are an infinite number of options I gave you the link as your mats looked a bit thin in the photo you posted so good to know you will be comfy at night ! (The grey awning is probably available if you are interested as I have gone for a 270’ and my partner has 2 howling moon ones one her 110 .. pm me and we can discuss.) Phil - I think that it may be better to contact Dormobile on facebook now - they were always a bit slow to answer but seen to have an active face book page at the moment - I am not sure if my stye of seats are available now as they are focusing on pop tops and ‘rock an roll’ long seats and fitting now, which is a shame. hope that helps Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |
