For me I find speed is the real killer to MPG figures. For reference I have standard ride height but a rack and rtt.

Cruising at 58-60 on the motorway I can get about 350 miles to a tank.
Up your speed to 70 with slight bursts higher for overtaking and I can easily see 50-100 miles wiped off that figure. In addition the 1.4 tb I don't feel that the defender is that happy at 70.

Canada 2004 Defender 90 2.5 TD XS CSW Keswick Green
Just done a run a couple of days ago, 2004 TD5, Alive Tuned, lowered, roof rack, towing a pretty full 5x9 Uhaul and got 15mpg (Proper gallons, none of this 3.8l gallons)
Also driving in the 70mph range.

Find that dropping the speed to 100kmh makes a world of difference for the fuel economy

Seems unfeasible to get a good MPG with that much kit and the big wheels etc on it.

I bet if you dropped your speed a little bit it would reap a huge reward. On my 110 with 265/75s and Alive stage 2 map I usually get around 320 miles to a tank, thats with hitting around 70 and driving average style.

I sat at around 60 driving to north Scotland and got around 460 to a tank which is a huge difference and we weren't in a rush to get there.

We were heavily laden too!

Mines a TD5 90 2001 with 265 18" wheels and tyres, no engine tune and I usually drive at about 55-60MPH and have got 30+ (only just +!) for the last 3 years of ownership. Mike

My 1999 110 TD5 runs 30-32mpg regularly, I do drive fairly economically and also rarely exceed 45mph, short journeys around town. When I have taken it on the motorway it does get very thirsty so I try to avoid.
