With a bit of time on my hands yesterday , I fitted the Safari Equip wheel carrier to my double cab .
There were no instructions but thankfully It was all fairly straightforward , due in the main to a write up on here ! It seems to be great quality , galvanised and powder coated , with bracket for Hi Lift . I don’t really have a need for a hi lift but may make up a bracket for a Jerry can . I can see that being useful for the garden machinery and boat top up run ! It came with a wire door stay that I have fixed to what I think are the correct points but I’m very concerned that when swung open it only gives the tiniest of gaps between the wheel carrier and rear tub corner . I’m pretty sure that if it swung open it would stretch the Stay cable and clout the body ! Has anyone else fitted one and if so , where did you mount it ? If it swings open it will snap said cable. Go on, ask me how I know 🤦♂️
Currently in the process of getting a new one made up, all be it a little shorter so it stops at 90degrees. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html Instagram - @r22oyp Roy |

Driving off from a friends garage there was a car in the way of the single track lane out so I thought, I’m in a landrover I can just go up the small bank and down the 10 inch drop the other side and we can all be on our way.
The drop at the end must have been enough to open the anti-luce fastener holding the wheel carrier shut and I got about 30metres up the road to the first corner where I heard a loud bang, and the cars on the other side of the road were swerving around me 😂 Wheel carrier was fully around the drivers side, snapped cable, luckily no damage to my vehicle or anyone else’s! 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html Instagram - @r22oyp Roy |

Wow Roy
That must have been absolutely terrifying for everyone , on coming drivers included. There’s a fair amount of inertia in that spare wheel so I’d hate to see what damage it could have caused ! I’ll be making sure my pins are fully locked down from now on . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

I have the same carrier on DCPU and echo your comments about quality. I could also use a shorter restraint cable because my offside roof rack ladder has a single leg which is currently acting as the end-stop.

I’ve noticed you’ve both managed to get the far right bolt through the top bracket . I was hesitant to try as thought it looked as though there wouldn’t be the space between the bodywork to spin the nut onto the bolt ! Clearly I need to try but really don’t want another hole in the bodywork if it won’t work !
The other question is regarding the strengthening plate on the inside . Is yours flush up inside abutting the inside of the tub capping ? Again mine sits about half an inch below , seems it would be stronger if it was hard up against tub capping. Irritatingly I now can’t get the ladder bolt down through the capping because of that new plate ! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

Yes, the inner plate on mine is abutted to the capping:

Hmm thank you intercept .
I will maybe have a rearrange , my rivets seem to be in a different location to yours , pretty much confirms that it’s had its rear tub shunted prior to my ownership !! https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

I had to drill an extra hole or two in the backing plate to clear a couple rivets 👍 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html
