Hello from lockdown. All very surreal. And despite venturing out three times, no sign of Gendarmes. Clearly we’re a trustworthy bunch.

My home town, lunchtime on a glorious sunny Saturday. The whole square would normally be full of tables and diners:

Ski car park. Should be packed on a Saturday. Ski season still not over.

This (aside from the motorway) is the main road in the lower-valley, between Chamonix and Geneva (the two biggest towns in the region) and feeding many other medium sized towns and tens of thousands of people over 70kms. Mid-morning on a Saturday, empty as far as the eye can see. Usually there’d be loads of cars in both directions.

I was pleasantly surprised today whilst visiting our local Aldi.

Last week many of the shelves were empty and there were massive queues in the car park and at the check outs.
Today the store was quiet and very well stocked.
Plenty of room to keep a good distance away from others and no shortages of anything.

Hopefully most of the selfish hoarders and panic buyers have now filled their houses with toilet roll and pasta so the rest of us can go about our regular food shop without too much inconvenience.

The only thing I am considering now is if it would be better for us to get two or more weeks worth of main food shopping in a single trip to minimise external contact, or if this just going to contribute to the supply problems for others in the short term.
Difficult one.

Construction sites are open as usual across the UK, this photo was taken twenty minutes ago on a site at Waterloo.

Contractors are refusing to shut sites until the Gov force them so they dont fall foul of any contractual clauses.

That photo was on Construction Enquirer this morning. Shocking! Shocked

There are reports of these conditions all over. fingerprint entry to site. readers not being cleaned. Construction workers have been treated like muck for years and sadly because so many of them are self employed, you can see why so few of them are arguing or complaining. These big construction companies should be ashamed. Profit and completion at any cost.

Many frontline NHS staff still have no PPE. Shameful. WARNING.

An embarrassing situation for a first world country as ours.

Go to www.flightradar24.com and you can see the aircraft flying over your area and where they have come from and are going to.

Bob

I've been fascinated by this website today. We normally see loads of planes as we're on a flightpath to the East Midlands Airport and it's been most enlightening to see the plane on the map and then out of the window.

However, I can't believe just how many flights there still are coming here from overseas when it looks like soon we're not even going to be able to go for a drive for a few miles locally.

That link is good. Especially as it gives some aircraft detail too. Thumbs Up
