My neighbors aren’t over 70’s they are all over 80’s, social distancing is no problem, I have a routine - code for bell ring, I go to clear glazed door to verify unlock door and retreat to let them enter - they are all also self isolating, door handles inside are sanitized before they enter and after departure and while they select some books I retreat to my kitchen. These are all great neighbors of 30+ years of standing and there are only 4 of them, all single people, probably lonely with no visitors / family coming to visit. I’ve just had one of the neighbors put a note through the door to come round to a >2m afternoon tea in her garden - bring your own cup/plate she will supply tea and coffee - the lady across the road (a recently retired doctor) then popped another note through saying as a single bloke not to go and buy any cake/biscuit she will bake enough for us all!
Roll on Sunday afternoon - hope the present sunshine keeps up until then or we will be sitting on deck chairs in a garage wrapped up against the cold! Clear blue sky here but only 8c at noon time. Today is the Spring Equinox too - northern summer is on the way, southern winter creeping up on you Pickles. We will be no doubt soon be locked down at home, so my shopping list involves chain oil, petrol, 2 stroke mix, fence posts and stock netting! Loads to do, and some hedging plants are being delivered (hopefully) this weekend.
We are also collecting a cocker spaniel pup later today, so that's a little time thief in a furry coat. I plan to keep training the 2 year old lab in prep for working tests and trials that obviously won't be on, but I can't do nothing with her over the summer! I've shifted things around and uncovered the gym equipment in the garage, it was buried under a mountain of 'stuff' but at least we can now do a bit of phys. Just a squat rack and bench, so pretty old skool. It will be interesting with 4 of us in the same space for an extended period, kids with online lessons, me trying to do some work, and Mrs H trying to manage the place. If ever there was a need for a trip to the pub..  |

We are on lockdown from midnight tonight. Our 11 year old Wheaton Terrier has already volunteered to distribute my extensive beer collection to elderly neighbours if necessary... bottle sanitiser included

That's what happens when you impose a maximum purchase of two of the same item per person!!
Bizarrely, when we were in Aldi last weekend doing what should have been a regular shop, the lady in front of us at the checkout had a bunch of six bananas on the conveyor. The cashier, snapped two off the bunch and said she could only sell her four. But the shelves were full of bananas, so obviously not on top of the hoarders' priority list!!! |

At waitrose, a pack of six tins counts as one item. You can't buy 4 tins, but you can buy 3 six packs!
They also had a special offer on 3 for 2 on washing powder, but you were limited to a maximum of 2 packs! |

I guess its a steep learning curve for everyone, including some of the largest businesses.
Joking aside, I think it is good that they are trying to stop people bulk buying even if some of the logic is flawed at this stage. |

We are ahead of you here by about 2 weeks and the bulk buying has died down a bit. It's been made clear that the "curfew" doesn't include going to the supermarket so the essentials should still be available to all - and we have huge beer stocks in Bavaria

Someone contacted a radio phone in to say how she berated a young lad in a supermarket who was pushing a trolley loaded with toilet rolls and hand sanitiser bottles. He stood politely listening to the lecture on how bulk buying deprived other people of these items. When things are grim it's good to appreciate the odd silver lining.
The community spirit locally has been outstanding. Looking out for oldies and vulnerable, buying shopping, childcare for key workers, etc The work by NHS staff that I saw today was truly inspiring.
