This and something similar from Nikon, were the first choice for many back in the day. Still got mine. Now fetching silly money on eBay because the lens is sought after for some other application that escapes me.

Apologies for the long text but this is what a friend (semi-pro volcano/penguin photographer) just replied to me:
The main 1st question is batch scanner or not. If its thousands and thousands of slides then you need a batch scanner that can scan the slides in their projector trays. Here you have reflecta batch scanners (OK quality but apparently tend to jam quite often; still available new) or the expensive high end Nikon coolscan models (trouble is they stopped being made in 2009 so risky getting second hand now). For individual slide scans there are far more options but it is terribly laborious, but again coolscan models are OK. Problem is that slides tend not to be flat so need to manually focus slightly off center to get average OK sharpness. It all quite sh*t to be honest. If in glass frames, the frames tend to keep flatter but need to scan through the glass. If lots of scratches / dirt then you need scanners with more error correction, yet this takes even longer. Really dont know the current model line-up since last time i scanned was 10 years ago and I have resigned to not scanning (although actually maybe now is a good time as stuck at home - hmmm....) This is a good read: https://www.filmscanner.info/en/FilmscannerRangliste.html Hope that helps ! p.s. and if you want to kill time looking at his photos, check out http://www.photovolcanica.com/ p.p.s. he's a miserable git but I still quite like him Stay well! Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
