I don't read Polish so don't know if this is actually true, but doing the rounds online.

Jim Magill (@thealso) Tweeted:

Letters my friends in Poland are getting saying that they may have to turn their vehicles over to the military....

They're not building up to invade Germany are they...?!

However I suspect that letter will be a hoax.

Does anyone else here have it? I'm now self-isolating. It feels like the worst imaginable flu, I can barely walk, my joints are so painful. Had a sleepless night last with very high temperature and high blood pressure as my heart was going like an engine at full chat. Absolutely horrible feeling. I've no idea where I caught it of course, oh and nobody answers the phone on 111...so I'm not entirely sure what to do. I live by myself so it's quite scary, if my condition worsens nobody will know. Reflecting the thanks as said.

Is your post about people with underlying issues, as the recovery rate is reported as huge?

Hi Greeni.

The mortality rate is around 2% overall, but the numbers becoming infected will be 70-80% of the population and a large proportion of those affected will need hospital admission (for oxygen therapy mostly - they reckon up to 30%). We only see the tip of an iceberg in ITU, but that tip is much, much bigger than other viral illnesses - hence the concern.

MERS and SARS (both corona viruses too) killed far more often (10% mortality for SARS, 30% for MERS!) but far fewer people contracted those.

If you have significant, chronic (which medically means 'longstanding') illnesses, if you are frail/elderly then you are much less likely to survive any critical illness (they are reasons by which we may justify not admitting to ITU under normal circumstances if they are bad enough). Unfortunately, it will kill some of the young and fit too, just fewer of that patient group statistically.

Kids seem much less affected in terms of severity than adults, thankfully.

Scary stuff.

Thanks Doc P for a very informative post from the business end of the NHS.

A quite shocking post Shocked

It's a crying shame that the suits, bean counters and the politicians don't listen more to you and your colleagues then maybe our NHS would be in a better shape?

We (the UK) have this hell bent attitude that our NHS is world beating. Sadly this is far from the truth and money which should be channeled into services, equipment and Staff get frittered away by endless bureaucracy, red tape and poor procurement. Lets face it, it's money that comes from our Taxes!

I am very proud of the NHS and I am probably more indebted to it than most on this forum for a good many reasons. I would not be as well as I am if I lived in the USA. A country that is very good at telling its people who marvelous it is. I hope that after this tragedy that is Corona Virus, we will all take a long hard look at its future and its importance to us.

Sorry. Rant over.

Fully agree Rashers.

Maybe in the long run it'll lead to change for the better. Sadly, I doubt it will.

Thank you for your reply, Mrs G has MS as well as TTP, so we, like many are a tad worried.
My initial ‘nothing to see here’ post is somewhat premature and stupid, but I don’t think anybody knew how this was going to escalate.

Call 111 again if you get any worse - particularly if your breathing deteriorates. Sit tight otherwise as some of the stuff you describe is expected as part of your body's response to the infection. It's a fine line between being sick and being very sick though.

Take paracetamol (1g 4 hourly), try and keep hydrated as best you can and check on-line advice but please phone 111 if you're worried.

Get better soon dude - you might be looking at 3 or 4 days of the rough stuff though.

Fab, i’d hate to think anybody would be doing this alone, i know you’re recently single and i personally am more than aware that relationship breakdowns can affect other family relationships.

I know i rub people up the wrong way, with my opinions on vehicles, but I’m happy to listen to anybody’s problems..
Stay safe.

Just got this from my insurance company.

The safety and wellbeing of both our staff and our customers continues to be our main priority during these challenging times following the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) on the island of Ireland. We are working very hard behind the scenes to ensure you continue to receive the high level of service that you have come to expect from Carole Nash.

Despite this, we will be tested from an operational perspective in the coming weeks, and are likely to suffer a reduction in staff numbers in our contact centres if the COVID-19 situation persists. As a result you may experience some delays while we try to deal with any query you may have.

In order to protect both customers and colleagues we will be closing our reception until further notice. This means we will not be able to service any customer at our office until further notice. Our contact centre remains open, and you can reach us on: •1800 298 550 (new customers)
•1800 298 551 (existing customers)
If you need to call us to renew your policy, please check your renewal invite as your policy may be subject to automatic renewal, meaning, we will renew your policy for you and you do not need to do anything. If you need copies of any documents or you no longer require your policy, please email us noting your policy reference number or policy number to emerald@Carolenash.com.

If you need to send us in documents in order to finalise matters on you policy, please email these to Dublincustomerdoc@carolenash.com or by posting these to Carole Nash Insurance Consultants (Ireland) DAC, Ulysses House, 22/24 Foley Street, Dublin 1.

We have put a number of FAQ’s up on our website, in order to assist you with any query you may have. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Impressed by Boris’ solution to this crisis. Let all of the UK get sick and then you will all develop a natural immunity against it. Interesting approach.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
