WHich rear calipers to order?
Well, I've had "one of those days". Following my fight with shock absorber bushes, I went to fit the new rear calipers and found...... they didn't fit either. Too fed up for words. Crying or Very sad

So I think I may have done this to myself, ordering 300Tdi calipers, and forgetting that the car has a more recent axle.

The existing casting - the one that came with the axle I suspect - is larger/wider here - the white line in the middle of the circle:

New caliper is narrower:

So, if I put the new caliper over the disc, the bolts won't line up with the threaded holes in the axle.

There's not much of a difference. I did measure but can't remember now - maybe 5mm or so - but enough that it won't fit. Same on both sides.

THe axle was a 'new take off' 2009 job - but as I've no VIN number I'm finding it hard to decide which parts to order. Can anyone help out? As always, I do appreciate it. Donald

or.... after googling some more .... could I have the wrong disc?

Have the rear discs been the same for ever, or did they change? Specifically would the disc itself move inwards or outwards relative to the end of the axle?

I don't know if ABS will complicate things - my car doesn't have this, and I don't think the new axle did either. Donald

I think post-2002 ish the rear pads on 110s were made thicker to alleviate premature wear, which would mean wider calipers?

I didn't think to measure the width of the slot for the pads - didn't get past the point where I realised it just wasn't going to fit over the disc in the first place.

Its occurred to me that another option is for me to get a piston and seal kit and just refurb the calipers that fit - but the inner pistons are well and truly seized on both calipers. I don't have a compressor or 'air' to blast them out.

For the price of a caliper, it will be so much easier to buy new - if I knew which to get. Donald

well that was interesting.

Existing caliper has a 53mm slot for the pads, the new one is 46mm.

So, lookimg very much as if I have ordered the earlier ones by mistake. A part number for the 2009 one would be ideal! Donald

^^^^ Thanks very much. I found my way to that page myself and it's looking like SMC500260 and 270 are the things I'm after.

I'll wait till Monday and speak to my parts shop. Donald

Worth comparing prices. I went AP last year when I changed mine but my mechanic says the Britpart ones are identical.
