The last Defenders (probably not called that then) were exported to North America around 1997.
This was when the import rules changed for the USA (don't know about Canada) requiring airbags. You can buy pre 1997 ones over there, but they seem to hold their value very well! |

Hi! You are missing something. Defenders are in the U.S and Canada. Many imports available in the US as well as NAS rovers. Imports must be 25 years or older to be legally imported in to the States. NAS Defenders are very expensive due to their rarity. Canada has looser laws regarding imported defenders and are not subject to the 25 year rule. Not sure about the specifics. I'm currently importing a 1987 d90 to the US right now. Hope that helps, Regards |

I thought they had to be over 25 years old in North America and over 15 years old in Canada. Ray

In short, yes. But you'll pay $50,000-$150,000 US for one.

There are Defenders in Canada, and specifically BC. There are a few of the NAS spec '94 Defender 90's (only year of import to Canada) and '93 NAS spec 110's (there were only 25 imported to Canada, 3 are local here in Vancouver).
You won't find anything through the local dealers, they don't really know anything about Defenders. It would be a stretch if there is anyone still working at any of the dealers that were even around in the early 90's when they were last available new. ROW trucks: Plenty around compared to years past. What is becoming most common now are Td5's. . Probably about 50-75 in BC, averaging 15-20 new imports per year over the last few years. However there are a number of earlier models about too. Most are pretty good condition, prices are insane compared to what you would see in the UK and the EU. Average pricing for a 2001 Td5 would be in the $40,000 range (Canadian $$). There are also some tired trucks around, rolled in glitter for the un-informed to sink their life savings into. If you have the time and inclination to import a LHD from Europe, it may be worth you while. Or import 2, sell 1... Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any specific questions Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |
