Hi. The thermostat has been changed. Aftermarket and gen LR one. AFAIK only one setting for the TD5 unless anyone knows of another? 1999 Defender TD5 110

I have the same problem with my TD5 - so interested to see what the possibles are here, I'll be checking my viscous fan later...
Just a thought, when the car is hot, are both heater matrix pipes 'hot' (i.e. too hot to touch)? Mine get hot but not scalding.... Like you I've already checked the heater box vent things move ok, flushed the matrix and checked the engine temp is ok. I considered doing the thermostat, but its not showing any problems with the engine itself - only the heater plumbing..... |

I have improved the heat. I replaced;
Thermostat - aftermarket and genuine LR Checked the controls for the heater - all good, but did note the flap control one had slipped in the clip so altered this. Flushed the matrix All the above offered no real improvement. Short of water pump replacement which had been mentioned and replacing the matrix. I opted for the matrix replacement in the end. When I eventually stripped the heater matrix out I found bits of rubber glove, mud, bits of wood splinters and a few blocked fins., Also the matrix despite being flushed still contained sludge/rust. A new matrix and adjustment of the flaps so the main flap sealed better against the main housing the heat is back. Still not 100% convinced I have the heat output I remember but at least it gets warm now, rather than before it felt like the same air outside as inside. There is a foam gasket around the matrix from memory which I didn't get so had to improvise and there is also one between the heater housing and the bulkhead which I resealed the best I could with sealant. good luck. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

I went through similar frustration trying to find the issue. Did the water pump, thermostat, already had a new Allisport matrix in.... turned out to be a head gasket. Did the gasket, and replaced the head, new reservoir cap. Instant heat... well, instant enough for a diesel.
