Oil Specification
Hi Guys, I have just noticed that on a recent service at the main agents a different oil spec. Can someone please tell if this is ok?

Mine should have the Castrol Edge C1 as it has the dpf 2.2 2014. The oil used is the Castrol E4 OW. within 3000 miles the service light came on..Main agent saying this oil was used as they had run out of the correct oil, but this is fine???

Short answer is no, it should be C1 spec oil only.

Just throwing in some other oil isn't what you pay the massive dealership premium for.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thank you, I have now contacted Land Rover as main agent saying the Castrol 0w30 oil is better than the specified oil.

Not sure if they are just trying it on.

It's not the viscosity rating (0W30) that is the key, it's the specification/additives - the C1 bit.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

For a 2.2 DPF equipped Defender the oil specification must be C1. Any other oil isn't the one specified by LR. I can't say it's "no good" but it's not correct.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

ACEA C class oils are designed specifically as catalyst compatible oils and designed for DPF equipped engines. One of the properties of C1 is that it prolongs DPF life.

E4 is classed as a heavy duty engine oil suitable for Euro V engines without particulate filters.

Martin is therefore spot on - E4 is not suitable for a 2.2 with DPF Defender 90XS SW
