when mine was doing this (round corners, roundabouts) it was the striker - the nylon covering had worn away and I guess the door wasn't latching properly.
Water dispersal system... there have been times I could have used one of them! A long time ago, my 90 used to do the same on the passenger side but only in cold weather. It sometimes took a few slams for it to actually stay closed. A through dose of spray lubricant in the latch sis the trick 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Wash the latch mechanism with brake cleaner. It sorted mine. Think it’s due to too much oil, and it being too thick as it’s cold.

I tried all the usual things on my 90’s drivers door and the only permanent fix was a new door latch.

Hard seals in the cold can cause bounce back on the doors before the latch can lock, passenger side on mine does this at the moment on cold mornings, drivers side is fine though!
Last winter I was prepared and lubricated the seals with silicon spray and the locks before the cold weather set in and had no problem. This year I wasn't so well organised |

Thanks for the suggestions. I have also ordered a new door catch as well - remembered why I don't use the key to lock the door....its a bit stiff. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Replaced the striker plate and the door lock and so far the drivers door has stayed shut while driving, which is an improvement over recent days!
However the word was not without its challenges; I needed to find a spare shim for the striker plate. Weld a crack around the door push down internal button. Fix a rusted strengthener piece that runs across the inside of the door. Replace the weather sheet behind the door card. After replacing the door lock and testing as I went. I thought all was well. Put the door back together and put the tools away. Only to discover that once the door was shut the outside push button would not open the door Called it a night. Sunday had another look, dismantled the door and discovered the rod for the push button linkage had come out the hole it fits in. Looking at the pics on my phone I had missed out a rattle clip. The issue of the door popping open is resolved
How ever now, the drivers door wont open on the key without excessive effort of turning the key. Looks to be like the barrel needs to turn further than the mechanism will allow. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

All good suggestions, when my door came open whilst driving, it was due to the hinges being badly worn. Being the tight ass I am I drilled out the pins and made new ones. I can tell you they are tough to drill. Installed and door was again snug as a bug in a rug!

The driver’s door on my Td5 popped open and swung wide while I was driving last week so I just grabbed the handle and gave it a good slam. When I got home, I couldn’t open the door from the inside - so I thought I’d get out of the passenger door but I initially found I couldn’t move because my coat was caught in the latch. By this time, my wife was watching and laughing. Anyway, I wriggled out of my coat, climbed over and left by the passenger door. A good yank on the door from outside solved the problem and I retrieved my coat but not my dignity . . . .
